Stayed in Room 508 for 3 nights
The reception to the hotel is on the 4th floor, accessible via lifts. Check-in was professional, with the reception staff going through an established procedure including having to fill in a form and all the basic information guests need for their stay.
The room has the layout of a small flat, with a mini hallway, a separate bathroom and a room equipped with a desk, chair, TV and bed. There’s no amenities like a kettle, tea, coffee etc. The room does have a window, although there’s nothing to see as it only opens out to the atrium. The desk and chair are good enough to work on. The bed had a medium-firm spring mattress, a thick cosy blanket and one of those long pillows the Spanish seem to be so fond of. I slept comfortably every night.
The bathroom had a bathtub and shower. Although I only showered, the tub was certainly clean enough to take a bath if I’d wanted. The hotel supplied liquid soap and shampoo via dispensers.
Location wise, the hotel is located about 5 minutes walk to Santiago de Compostela train station as well as the Estacion autobuses de santiago. It’s about 15 minutes, mainly an uphill walk towards the main sights of the city. The hotel does offer breakfast, but there are so many cafes around the area, there’s plenty of places to eat. There’s also plenty of supermarkets around the hotel.
Overall, Hostal México is a business-like budget hotel that is clean, comfortable and an excellent place to stay for several nights.
