We just (June 10, 2013) spent one night at the Cavalli Casa Resort. In itself, it’s a fine hotel, modern with large and clean rooms. Breakfast was not very appetizing, this was a Monday morning and we were probably served leftovers from the weekend. And it’s definitely not a resort. The main problem was the location: the map on the website was totally wrong, and the quite aggressive Tuk Tuk drivers around the train station don’t know that hotel. The first one we talked to wanted to take us “there” for 200 Baht. We offered 100 Baht, and he accepted, but he didn’t even know where “there” was. He took us to two different hotels nearby (not a 100-Baht trip), pretended he was calling the hotel when we gave him the number, and finally took us to the Kantary hotel, quite a way out. At that point we just put 20 Baht on the seat, and got off. The second driver took us back near the train station, and asked colleagues of his where the hotel was, then said he didn’t know how to get there, but still wanted the agreed upon 50 Baht that we adamantly refused to give. Some of his colleagues seemed to know and they offered to take us there for 150 Baht, saying it was “very far”. As a matter of fact, the hotel – with an Italian name that no local driver knows – is about 4 kilometers straight north of the train station. In all, we lost about 2 hours and 20 + 100 Baht.
