About this property

Farmstay with Ocean View in Monteverde! Nature, private and amazing views

Welcome to Casa Paraiso.
You will think that you have died and gone to heaven. The lovely four bedroom, two bathroom home is nestled atop a hill with a lovely view overlooking the verdant green valleys of the MonteVerde forests and pasturelands. From the master bedroom, there is a commanding view of the lush valley below.

If you are fortunate, you will have front rowseats to a specatacular lightening show. From the living room, you will be mezmerized by the parade of butterflies and hummingbirds that visit the abundant flowers throughout the day. Despite the feeling of privacy and total seclusion, you are just a few minutes drive to the town of MonteVerde, fifteen minutes to the reserve, and within walking distance of many other local attractions including ziplining, coffee tours, and night tours. This truly offers the best of both worlds, allowing you to see the history and authenic beauty that has made Costa Rica and MonteVerde and international draw while being cose to amenities and all that is new within the area as well. However, the best part about this home is the ability you have to take a peek into authentic Costa Rican life. This is a third generation, small scale, sustainable dairy farm. The cows are pasture-fed and roam freely throughout the day. It is our vision to continue to operate this farm without the use of pesticides or chemical based fertilizers and to maintain a balance of pasturelands and forest.
Guests are invited to take a tour of the farm. Come and see the cows up close and try your hand at milking. Take a tour of the garden, where you will find banana trees, the beginnings of a small scale coffee farm, and seasonal fruits and veggies under the care of our family. We also have sheep, goats, pigs, and poultry on the premesis that are all a part of the farm operation. MonteVerde is an area with a rich history in dairy production. My family has been a part of it since the time that oxen were used to transport milk daily to town.
At the conclusion of the farm tour, we invite to you dine with us and try the fresh Costa Rican cheese. You can enjoy an authentic meal featuring the freshly made cheese, hand made tortillas, along with other locally sourced and seasonably available items. You will notice a diffence in the quality of the food that is locally sourced and where animals are fed a natural diet. This is an opportunity to experience "La Pura Vida" at its finest.

Stay if you brave and adventures!
The farmhouse is OK. Host is very friendly and helpful. But the second night we didn't have hot water at all and found a pretty big scorpion and a tarantula on the wall and on the ceiling.

A Real Farm in a Beautiful Spot
You can tell that the Vargases are a family and that La Finca Paraiso Cheese Farm is a working farm. They're happy to give you any advice you need, and they spend the day working on the property. The farm tour was great! You get to feed a calf from the bottle, feed the piggie his greens, milk a cow and learn about the history of the farm, including the family's transition to pesticide-free farming. And there are killer sunsets.

Beautiful and idyllic with the warmest loveliest hosts
This is a stunningly beautiful place and you couldnt ask for sweeter hosts. The house has everything we needed (though there are 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, not 4 beds and 2 baths as listed). We so appreciated being able to wash clothes and everything dried on the line. We joined Orlando and Carolina for a tour of the farm to meet the animals. My kids loved feeding the calves and the goats and trying their hand at milking. Making cheese and tortillas with Carolina was a delight. Orlando shared so much about how the farm works and how it has evolved over the generations to adapt to different farming practices that are in harmony with the ecosystem and are having to change with clinate change. We had one meal there (breakfast), which was wonderful. They serve amazing coffee produced by a family friend whose farm isn't far away; we brought some home. They have a selection of lovely souvenirs, including paintings by their cousin, which my kids loved. We loved this spot as our base in Monteverde. The change of pace from staying in cities and towns was energizing. Highly recommend!

In the Farm
Our grandson loves animals do a farm stay was the perfect opportunity for him. Orlando was wonderful as he took us on a tour- milking a cow, bottle feeding a calf and goat as well as the pig and chickens. All this was enhance by having the chance to make fresh chance and tortillas with his mother. A beautiful location, great views and sunset, and close to Monteverde (zip lining).

Wonderful stay at a beautiful farm villa
Our stay at the Finca Paraiso was excellent. Orlando and his family took good care of us, giving us a farm tour and cooking us dinner. They are doing a wonderful job converting their farm to an organic one, and we had such a great time milking their cows, feeding baby animals, and making cheese from fresh milk. The home itself is very clean and tidy, and has everything you need. We highly recommend this stay!

Exactly what we wanted!
We were two couples who stayed for 2 nights. We wanted a more authentic view of Costa Rican living. The property is beautiful, with views that are unbeatable. We took advantage of having the family prepare breakfasts and dinners and they were delicious. Please come with the expectation that this is a farm house and not a resort and you will not be disappointed!

Too rustic for our taste
We arrived at this location in hopes of a relaxing and rustic experience. We had to go and find the owners each and every time we needed something as they were never outside. The owners did not speak English, but the children did briefly. We quickly found out there was no hot water. After speaking to the children of the property owners, they came to the house and said it was fixed but would only be slightly warmer then room temperature. That was not the case. We had to shower in cold water as well as wash dishes in cold water. We would open the windows during the day to allow airflow and to cool the house, but by 5:00, we had to shut everything because the bugs were terrible. The entire house felt damp and musty. All 3 beds smelt very musty and no sheets fit the mattresses. The internet was very unpredictable as well. There were dead bugs all over the floors. We ended up leaving 1 day early.

This property is quiet and secluded yet easy to get to town and be in the middle of all of the activities. The food is nothing short of amazing, and the hosts are very willing to do anything to make your experience perfect!

Loved It!
We loved the house, the views, family, night hike and delicious food. It was so wonderful to come back after a busy day to sit around the table with the owners eating a delicious meal cooked by Yolanda. Such a warm hospitable family. Her homemade cheese was so good!

This is a wonderful out of way place. BThe farm is overlooking a beautiful valley.
Orlando and his family are as sweet and accommodating as any hosts we have ever met. The apartment was clean, with a fully equipped kitchen. The drive to Santa Elena was about 20 minutes. We loved our time on the farm, and would happily stay there again.

Best place for our family
We had a wonderful time at casa paraiso! Our toddlers loved being able to run around and play with Zorro, the dog. We ate breakfast and dinner at Yolanda's restaurant. She is a delight and the food was delicious! There was plenty of space in the house for us and the area was clean and comfortable. Orlando gave us a great tour of his family's farm and it was a pleasure to get to know him better. The setting was absolutely beautiful, especially at sunset. The location was convenient. Highly recommend!!

Lovely house with all we needed in the kitchen. Beautiful views and the family was very welcoming!
Loved our 4 nights at the farm. The farm tour is a 'must do'. Orlando Jr was a great guide and generous with sharing a bit about his family's life and their great efforts to offer activities and accommodations for travellers. The 3 bedroom house was simple and perfect. There is also a beautiful new cabin on the property. Orlando's mom is also now offering a bread making class and we met a couple who took it and loved it. The location was great. 8 minute drive up Santa Elena.

Farm Life and Tranquility
Our family (my husband and our 2 teenage kids) spent a few days here on our trip through Central American. We loved every minute of it! Orlando is very helpful in recommendations and teaching us about the families farm and Yolanda was a true pleasure to cook with. Sharing meals together was a highlight! We highly recommend a visit to this wonderful family farm!
