Converted Church in a Beautiful Country Setting

You are looking at a 170 year old church located in Spring Mills, PA about 30 minutes from State College, and within easy reach of Millheim and Lewisburg.

The space
This historic building is a former church built in 1848. Each morning light shines through the large, antique stained glass windows, as the sun rises over a spectacular view of the valley. This timber framed church is one of the oldest buildings in the area, and is a local landmark. It was was deconsecrated in 2000. I purchased the property in 2013, and began converting it into a home, and I am very pleased to be able to open the space to share with guests.
Inside the interiors are bright, open and contemporary. The church is comprised of a large open plan living/dining room and two bedrooms. Each private bedroom has a queen size bed and there is a lovely secluded sleeping area in the main space, there is a futon in the sitting area as well, so we can accommodate 8, and arrangements can easily be made for additional bed space.
There is a light filled full bathroom with shower and large clawfoot bathtub, the kitchen is fully equipped, the dining table can seat 10 (additional tables and seating are available upon request), and in the comfortable sitting area there is a large screen television with dvd player, and stereo system. I have lived in this space with my young daughter, and I consider it to be very kid friendly; the cardboard castle is usually quite popular!
The open floor plan is very flexible, and the arrangement can be modified to meet your needs.
There is a chimnea in the side yard under the shade of two lovely maple trees for fires.

Location
If you're interested in a quiet country get away, The Church is located in the heart of Penns Valley, which boasts unparalleled rural beauty, and boundless opportunities to enjoy the setting. Penns Creeks' world class trout fishing is just two miles away, and a local fly fishing shop offers guides, and information for seasoned anglers, and newbies alike. The creek is also fantastic for canoeing, kayaking, and tubing. Incredible hiking and biking are right around the corner in Bald Eagle Forest, and road bikers will find seemingly endless route options. Amish buggies pass the church frequently, and the country roads wind through some of the most bucolic scenery central pennsylvaina has to offer.
Just a few miles east of the Church lies Millheim, home to a local brewpub serving great beer and food, and hosting live music, a charming coffee shop, farmers' market, grocery store, and art gallery featuring the work of many local artists. Woodward sports camp is just a 15 minute drive away.
Visit State College just 30 minutes west Home to Penn State University, and dozens of other attractions including excellent shopping, great restaurants cultural events, art museum, and a fantastic arboretum.
Lewisburg is a beautiful 45 minute drive away. Lewisburg is a charming small town, and the home of Bucknell University. Stroll historic streets, enjoy the local restaurants, and dig for treasures in the many antique shops.
Make yourself comfortable in this vacation home, which features a fireplace. A kitchen is outfitted with a refrigerator, an oven, and a stovetop. Conveniences include a microwave and a coffee/tea maker.
Take in the views from a garden and make use of amenities such as barbecue grills.
Guests will find features like internet access and onsite parking.

Everything we hoped for, and more!
This was one of the most beautiful and unique rentals we’ve stayed in. Everything is as described and looks even more stunning in person. Our family of 5 slept comfortably and had plenty of space. We enjoyed the fire pit in the yard. Easy to get to Penn State. Highly recommend!

Unique weekend getaway
We came into town for Penn State football, it was a quick easy drive to campus. This converted church property was full of unique art, textiles, books and furniture. The decorating and out door space were just lovely and so interesting, the whole experience really got our imaginations going and our whole family loved it. It will live on in our memories forever. Thank you!

Peaceful and Relaxing stay
The property was exactly as listed- such a wonderfully different type of stay. There was plenty of room and the stained glass windows were gorgeous to look at while having coffee in the morning or winding down at night. We visited in June, but I'd imagine this would be amazing in the winter months with the stove and cozy atmosphere. Thanks to Mark for hosting us!

Interesting place to stay
Very interesting eclectic place exactly as pictured. Grounds are beautiful. Great place when traveling with toddlers. Wide open space with kids kitchen and castle. Would benefit from a play yard or something of the dirt to put around pellet stove to prevent children from accessing stove when on. Also shower leaks to floor. If you’re looking for a 5 star experience this is nit the place for you but your looking for something different and to explore, this is it The owner is pleasant and helpful. Easy to deal with.

Rural peace and charm.
If you want pace and amenities of a city, this is not the place. But if you want a charming setting to unplug, excellent choice! Despite this being an old church, the upgraded bathroom was a welcomed luxury, and the modern appliances in the kitchen were also great. Made the stay perfectly comfortable. Place wasn't missing a thing for our group and purpose. Bonus: chilly nights when we stayed, so the wood burning heat was great! And, the owner is wonderfully responsive to everything. Great experience. Would go back for sure.

Church Stay
Great Place to stay with a family, Very quiet and Peaceful out in the beautiful Pennsylvania countryside, The Converted Church is really unique. Very Quaint decorations of MId-century Modern Art mixed with Americana antiques from 1800s & early 1900s. The Cemetery is cool. I walked around a read a lot of the head stones. The oldest one i saw was from the late 1700s. Amazing. Thank You

Our vacation
It was a good property lots of land and interesting but inside was old and rundown and had no ac. It got so hot in there during the day and hard to sleep at night. Bathroom was the hottest spot in the church and beds were not comfortable. Had to leave after searching for a place that allowed dogs and within our price range.

Now I lay me down to sleep…
What a cool place, the church and all its artsy features was a great place to relax after running our girls to and from basketball games! Check in and out we’re easy, and the owner was available if we ran into issues. (Which we didn’t) The kids loved wondering around the cemetery to see the most historic date on tombstones. Now I can say when someone asks, have you ever slept in a church, yep!

Unique & Serene Get Away with Penn State Access - 5 STAR
Unique and special property with spacious layout and serene setting. We arrived late at night and it was particularly foggy, and my teen kids humorously said it felt like they were in a Scooby Doo mystery as we entered the church. In the light of day, its real charm and beauty shone through much like the sunlight did through the many stained-glass windows that lined the property. In addition to the charm of an old church, an eclectic mix of artwork, books, and features throughout the space, also made the property unique. The kitchen was very spacious and had ample counter space. The table, plus the additional pew, gave plenty of seating options in the eating area. One drawback was that the TV did not have cable and relied on a Roku stick-type streaming device that only worked partially with the Wifi and required you to log into your own channels and apps. As we prepared for the evening's Penn State Whiteout - would have like to have watched some of the other college football games but were limited. Although there was only one, bathroom, it was modern, spacious, bright with natural light and had both a stand-up shower, as well as a claw-footed bath that included a table that went across the bath for your book or tablet while enjoying the bath. Its open layout was spacious and worked well for our family, and the location gave easy access to Penn State (which is why we were visiting during a football weekend). All in all - we really enjoyed this property - and if we are back in this area, we will certainly utilize this unique property. It was a very serene location and its its original roots and purpose as a church are still able to be enjoyed.
