We had waited 40 years to return to Athol Palace Hotel. Reception was friendly and informative. The grounds are amazing and the map provided allows for easy navigation. The pitch n putt definitely neededa mow. Paige in The Stags Head, bar and restaurant, was wonderful. Always engaging well with diners. Laura in the main restaurant for breakfast was friendly and helpful. The meals were excellent. As for the other staff we found them quite rude at times, which put a real dampener on our trip as customer service is important to us when travelling. We were often ignored and not made feel welcome. Don't ask for a bathrobe to go to the day spa. After asking reception 3 times with no receipt of robes, we made our way to the spa and pool. Lovely facility but the staff there were quite rude when I asked if I could get robes. After nearly 3 hrs waiting including our swim n spa our robes had been delivered to our room. Too late. All reception had to say was that they were really short on housekeeping stafff and it could be sometime before they would arrive instead of telling us 3 times that they would be sent up straight away. I know it might seem petty, but we had had a huge drive and wanted to relax at the spa and have a snooze before going to dinner. Customer service certainly needs to be addressed to enhance the beauty of this magical hotel.

The Athol Palace is truly a gem. The Palace itself is preserved well with minor cosmetic repairs noted. The grounds are lovely and a short walk to town is a must. The swimming pool, hot tub and steam were enjoyed but the sauna not working. The gym was small but workable. The “cozy” double was small but still sufficient. The dining room, bar and common area were all comfortable. The food was average. I stayed on a weekend. There were weddings going on all weekend. I feel the staff was overwhelmed and there was not enough help.

This palace is up on a hill and driving up to it took my breath away. Pitlockry is a quaint little town and Atholl is the "Queen" of the quaintness. The building and grounds are exceptional. Be sure to walk all of the grounds and take in the unique gardens and tree lined trails into town and the backside along the creek. A memorable place to stay!

A grand hotel in a beautiful setting however inside there are many areas showing their age. Our room was average and for the money spent would have expected a robe and slippers. Reception staff were excellent but other staff didn’t look happy and not attentive. The bar had a friendly atmosphere but even at a high end drinks were expensive £17 for two standard drinks. Had high expectations but have had better experiences at lesser establishments and won’t be returning.

We have a very unpleasant dinner experience at the hotel. One of the guests could not eat her steak because if was so tough. Staff seemed to be having a dispute about something, then they began to set-up the dinning room, for breakfast while we were still eating our dinner. Very surprised that such a lovely establishment provided such a poor eating experience

Overnight nightmare
We stayed at this hotel overnight in order to break up a longer journey and in order to see a show that was featuring in the theatre. Long story short we barely were able to sleep due to the condition of the floorboards. I would calculate that there was one that DID NOT creak as apposed to the other way around . My husband and I can make frequent bathroom trips during the night so you can imagine the noise every time nature called. Add in to the equation that Room 325 has a bedroom and a small sitting area to walk through before arriving at the toilet! .This was not a cheap overnight as B&B was 325 GBP did we felt really short changed as well as tired. We reported the issue with reception as have had no contact since. Breakfast was standard fare and if wanting anything different like poached eggs or kipper etc there was a hefty surcharge. If they charge a not insubstantial tariff for staying at their hotel they must be prepared to pay to maintain it to a reasonable standard. Positives , plenty of parking, nice grounds and overall cleanliness was good. If staying here avoid room 325.

Poor Front of House Staff - never stayed before and staff just handed the key, had to find our room by ourselves, jacuzzi - had to climb in/out no steps in or any handrail. Room was lovely (Room 111). Evening meal - starter was lovely, main course was basic. Our daughter ordered a bottle of white wine, delivered to our table in a wine cooler with no ice - wine was warm - Cost £50. Left very disappointed in which should of been a lovely stay to celebrate our Ruby Wedding Anninversary. :(
