Kick back and relax in this calm, stylish space in the heart of a food forest. Bananas, blueberries, figs, pomegranates and a cornucopia of other organic edibles may just be ready for you to sample off the tree, and 2km down the road there is the most beautiful white sand beach where you can swim, spearfish, snorkel or just relax. Situated close to Parua Bay village and Whangarei Heads offering heaps to do, or if you prefer to just chill in the cabin, you have complete privacy for that.
This lovely cabin is in a super quiet environment. Only the sound of kiwis and morepork might momentarily interrupt your sleep - but what beautiful, uniquely NZ sounds!
You might easily be tempted to stay in the comfy bed all weekend, however, open the blinds and the views through the windows will, for sure, beckon. The wide sliding doors give you access to the sizeable deck, a small table setting, BBQ, and a gorgeous view across fields to Pataua Estuary and the Poor Knights Islands. On the deck you will be surrounded by a combination of natives and subtropical fruit trees, with access to a sweet smelling sensual garden behind the cabin and a second seating arrangement - perfect for a morning coffee! The trees and plantings create a protected glade, allowing you to totally immerse yourself in nature and leave life-stresses behind. If fruits are in season you are welcome to sample them straight from the trees. Since graduating from a Permaculture Design Course, we try and employ permaculture principles in our garden and production of food. We will happily share some of our knowledge in this area if you are interested.
The cabin has a kitchenette equipped with microwave, induction element, kettle, toaster and basic cooking and dining utensils. There is a small supermarket 6km away to buy provisions or, with advanced notice, you can order a home-cooked meal or a basket of high-quality, locally sourced ingredients from the hosts. Or, if eating out is more your thing, we can recommend lovely local options to choose from. For breakfast, we will serve a continental breakfast of homemade goodies (a.o. Sourdough bread), homegrown fruit and a variety of spreads.
We totally recommend visits to 'our' secret beach which is a 5min drive away. A 6km stretch of white sand framed by a dramatic volcanic landscape and an off-shore island for snorkelling or spearfishing - NZ wilderness at its loveliest! The local area also offers plenty of hikes, fishing opportunities, chilled-out tavern, arts and crafts markets... and more. If you are prepared to travel a bit further, world-class diving opportunities at Poor Knights, the Bay of Islands and the Hundertwasser Gallery are all in reach. Situated 800m from the Te Araroa walking track, and close to great bike rides, this is also the perfect place to put your feet up.
Access to our address is via 2km of gravel road, so expect your car to gather some dust on its exterior. There is easy parking on site and access to the cabin is up a short 20m bush walk. The cabin is separate and has 25m distance from the main house with private, exclusive access. There doesn't need to be any interaction with us, although we are also happy to give you an in-person introduction to the place and local area if that is what you would like. You can guide us in how much contact you would like.
In short, we love Little Forest of Kai and would be excited to share it with you. Please reach out if you have any questions.
