We like the heated toilet seat and free shuttle bus to MRT station. The hotel is sooo beautiful and historical. The architecture is magnificent. The bed and pillows are firm. Wish it’s softer.

The best thing about this property is the architecture and the views. It’s very impressive, inside and out. My friend and I got a standard room with no windows, so I’m sure the other rooms are better. But for the price, this place was really worth it. We took a lot of photos around the outside with the hotel in the background, and from this hilltop location you can see a lot of Taipei. We had rented scooters, so it also included free parking for motorcycles. Cars have to pay though. I probably wouldn’t recommend this place without a vehicle, unless you don’t mind taking taxis all the time. We stayed for two nights (for the history and novelty of it) and spent the rest of the time in another more convenient area of Taipei.

A charming and historic hotel. The room is decent, though the equipment feels quite outdated. The so-called “secret tunnel” is more of a gimmick. The bed is uncomfortably hard, almost like sleeping on the floor. The air conditioning doesn’t work well, so you may need to leave the door open for some cool air. However, the view is outstanding—10/10. The hotel’s restaurant is exceptional. Overall, it’s not a bad experience, but this hotel is better suited for those wanting to visit and appreciate its history rather than seeking a comfortable stay.

The staff were very helpful and the room was clean and spacious. The free shuttle to the Yuanshan metro station was very convenient, especially as it’s on the Red line, which stops at a lot of the big tourist destinations. The major disadvantage is, being slightly out of the way in the mountains, you can feel a little stranded outside of shuttle hours.

Added bonus: If you can speak Mandarin, join the East Secret Tunnel tour for NT 500. This tour is for hotel guests only. There are two evacuation passages for important visitors such as heads of state, diplomats etc. back then. we had a knowledgeable tour guide for East tunnel.
