Like other reviewers have said, the hotel is fine. It's in a good location, near the train station and not a bad walk to the old town.
However, it's one of those older buildings that can either have air conditioning or heat and does not have air conditioning from November to April. We were there in early November and the days were warm. Our room was on the sunny side of the building and it really heated up during the day. The building's heat was on and we were hot in the room. The area is quiet and we were able to sleep with the window open which made it somewhat bearable at night but be we chose the hotel because it advertised air conditioning which they did not have.
Chisun Grand is just 3 mins’ walk from Takayama station. This is my second time staying at the same exact hotel in Nagoya as I liked it for its location.
Hotel room is clean, big by Japanese standards ( I had a twin share). The bath room is also larger than average hotel bath room size.
Hotel is near Miyagawa morning market ( 5 mins’ walk) along the river. Enjoy the cool breeze against rushing waters in the river, where you can find carps, fishes, ducks and birds .
Along the morning market street, do try the soft and squishy wasabi mochi.
Round the corner from the hotel there are lots of restaurants. Worth mentioning is Takumiya which sells beef rice bowl that can be enjoyed 3 ways.Yakiniku is offered at level 2. Takuma is another restaurant that tourists would find interesting.
Hotel is pricey, because it's in a touristic area. The room is pretty clean, but I was unlucky to have gotten a room that has a persistent pee smelling toilet.
There is no microwave in the room, and the little fridge is standard size. The microwave is shared and is located near the receptionist area.
There is NO laundry facility at this hotel.
The free coffee is not that great!
The staff (receptionists and room service ladies) are EXCELLENT -- very friendly and helpful.
The misty sauna is GREAT -- no towels provided. Must bring your room's towels, but the room service ladies are happy to provide you new towels next day.
The hotel is conveniently located near the Takayama Station, and like other hotels, is surrounded by many restaurants -- touristic ones. There is a BOSS SUPER MARKET nearby (1/4 mile walk), and it has a lot of stuff.
Ask the receptionist if you need a 3-prong-to-2-prong power adapter.
I enjoyed my stay; the room was great and had a nice view of nearby mountains. The staff were wonderful and the breakfast was great. No negatives I can think of.
We stayed in 2 x twin rooms for family of 4. Room size is quite decent for Japanese standards. Reasonably priced. Very near to Takayama Train Station and walking distance (5-10mins) to nearby tourist districts.
Pretty much the best hotel we stayed during our trip in japan. A short walk from the bus station and 15 minutes walk from the tourist attraction. I would book again if we go to takayama again
Check in and check-out were a breeze. Helpful, friendly staff. Just around the corner from Takayama station.
Room was immaculately clean. Bed was very comfortable. Shower pressure was amazing and tons of hot water for a soak in the tub after.
This hotel really is very close to Takayama Station and I am very happy that we got allocated a room on the top floor! We stayed in the Grand Twin Room. The room was so roomy! We also had a nice view. And it was very nice to hear the 5pm chime again. We forgot what that was about. The hotel staff explained that it is played to remind people to go home. How nice. And I read that it is also a way to test the town's disaster warning system. As for the buffet breakfast, it has a Bed & Breakfast feel to it. So has the dining area. Of all the buffet breakfasts I had on this trip, this was my favourite. The small sweet bread roll and the potato croquettes were just so yummy!
