A nice weekend, BUT...
My wife and I have visited Mt. Dora many times, but we had never stayed at the Lakeside Inn until this weekend. I figured it was worth it to at least try it out once. First, the positives --the location is beautiful, the grounds are well kept, and the view is OUTSTANDING. The front desk staff were lively and helpful, even on Thanksgiving, when I know no one really wants to be working. Our room was a decent size, clean, and the closet was much larger than most. Nice chairs and table, and the refrigerator we requested was ready to go. (we always have leftovers :-) ) I did like being able to park at the Inn and then walk everywhere, especially when there was a lot going on. BUT... Getting the luggage and bags in and out of the room is frankly a nightmare. No luggage racks, a more than decent walk from where you park, especially when we checked in, (the area where you could park to get closer to the rooms was blocked off when we checked in) and no elevators. I am not in the best of shape admittedly, and dragging the suitcases up the stairs to the Gables 2nd floor was rough. Unfortunately, we tend to bring a bunch of stuff, and always buy more when in Mt. Dora, so it was challenging when checking out as well. The bed was OK, but a bit hard, and it creaked when getting in and out. I can tell you there were signs for Quiet Hours, but I don't think there was much security going down the halls at night to enforce. Refrigerators you have to ask for, and microwaves I do not

Reminds me of a stay at Grandma’s house.
Hotel is definitely old. Makes you feel like you are staying over at Grandma’s for the holiday. Lots of stairs but definitely worth the proximity to downtown and atmosphere. The second room off our room creeped me out a bit but would be great for traveling with kids.

This was our first stay at this hotel, and we enjoyed it. Beautiful setting in a historic venue. Restaurant was good. The rooms are dated (as you would expect from a historical building) but adequate. Our bathroom sink had no water pressure but the toilet and shower were good. Hotel staff were friendly. I recommend the sunset cruise on the lake. We would go back again.

Beautiful surroundings. Exquisite property. Food, staff & service were excellent. This is an old historical property so set expectations. Rooms are on the small side, especially bathrooms. Very well maintained but like i mentioned it is an old historical property.. Definitely enjoted and recommend a visit.

Great location. Really felt like an “Old Florida” place. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was in the old part of the Inn. Carpet was a bit worn. Ran out of hot water - was tepid. Otherwise a nice stay in great town.

The staff is very friendly and helpful. You have to be prepared for a 125 plus year old facility. Its very nice however not always quiet. Thin walls and a adjoining bathroom that you could hear everthing from did make it somewhat strange. Overall it is a very nice experience with beautiful grounds!!

You are definitely paying for the amazing location and the historical charm. It is within walking distance of downtown Mount Dora and on the lake which is great. The rooms definitely show wear, the bathrooms require multiple flushes. Some of the quirks are charming such as using an actual key to get in the doors and the old time bathrooms. But mostly just seems like benign neglect to the room. Especially for the price you are paying. Would be more comfortable and have more amenities and cheaper at a Fairfield inn, would just not be as conveniently located.

I booked a stay for 3 nights nights for a family of four. I understand that this is a historic hotel however the conditions inside the room is very poor. The carpet is extremely old , sticky and even wrinkled. The little furniture there is, is very old and wobbly . I got a standard room with two double beds. Only 3 drawers for cloths and one small night table drawer , no chair, sofa or desk . I stayed in the gables building perhaps the other buildings are better. The shower had very low water pressure and the room very noisy. The beds were lumpy and linens extremely old . For the good , everything outdoor is fantastic . Very beautiful. The boat tour is great and they let you bring in drinks. Dinning is plentiful and walking distance. Too bad the rooms are not good.
