Family holiday
Loved the property and its location, Marie-Helene and Claude very welcoming. Kids loved the pool and the grounds, was a great base for us to explore Normandy, would definitely recommend to others, was also lovely to be shown round their own chateau and hear the history behind it.

A historical stay
We loved the location and the fact we were staying in a building built in early 18th century, the host and her husband were welcoming and shared interesting and incredible history of the buildings and their family! The location was so close to DDay sites, grocery stores and museums. We had very peaceful nights in the library with the large French windows open to the breeze and late setting sun each night. The place is large, we had 4 in our family and loved everything about our stay. We would definitely come back!

Lovely stay in a historic building
Spacious rooms in a building with lots of character. Quiet location. Nearest grocery stores and restaurants are in Bayeux about 10 minutes away. Marie Helene was a generous host who was willing to share her love of the area.

Normandy Beaches Visit
We stayed here for three nights while we visited the Normandy WWII beaches and sites. It was perfectly located for this. The property was spacious and had plenty of room for a large family if needed. Close proximity to Port en Bassin which had lots of good restaurants and a supermarket nearby. Nice and quiet and peaceful at night. Helene was easy to communicate with and check in and check out were super easy. No problem finding the property with provided address. Fun to stay in a historic site as well.

Historic carriage house
A much needed break after a hectic week in Paris. It was quiet, room to run for children, easy access to Bayeux and the Normandy beaches. The rental is in the converted carriage house of a 17th century chateau replete with history provided by Marie Helene. The premises are “faded” but beds were good, bathrooms updated sufficiently, kitchen a bit of a challenge, library a lovely evening setting. Kids loved the “garden »

Unique Home in Countryside Near D-Day Sites
Our stay could not have been any nicer! We were met by our landlady and cordially shown the property. She was easy to communicate with from original booking all the way through checkout. The property itself is historical and charming. The kitchen is well equipped and we cooked often using local foods from the Bayeux Market. We enjoyed the outside space and ate in the garden. The bedrooms were large and we thought it would be a perfect set up for a extended family or friends to share. Two bathrooms were a great feature. The location was outstanding for visiting all the sites we planned to see. You do need a car. The rural setting was peaceful and yet convenient. We woke to birds and other animals instead of traffic and city noises. A wonderful way to start our busy days. From this beautiful base we visited Bayeux, St Mere Eglise, Utah Beach, Omaha Beach, Arromenches, and the American Cemetery. We planned to take the train from Bayeux to Caen but we spent more time at the beaches. We picked up our rental car in Caen and it was an easy drive. Thank you, Helene-Marie, for sharing your beautiful family home. We miss the cats greeting us in the driveway as we returned home each evening. The long, stately driveway was something out of Pride and Prejudice. Very grand and welcoming entrance.

Going back in time...
All in all, I believe we had a wonderful experience. The property, however, has seen better days and needs some investment to redevelop its full potential. But then the price would increase substantially. The mansion setting, however, is fenomenal and if you let your imagination fly you'll be taken to a different era in time . Marie Helene couldn't be a better host and was very helpful at all times, friendly but not intrusive. In addition, you're close to everything your mind fancies: war, history, from Huns to nuns, victory to defeat. The living quarters are spacious, very clean and lighted. Nothing fancy, yet comfortable and adequate. A large ELeclerc mega supermarket is only 10 minutes away and attended to all our needs. Oh, don't forget to ask and be prepared for the vampire...

Normandy Beaches
Our hostess was quite charming and gracious. The location was so close to everything yet private and intimate. We were only about 8 km from Bayeaux and the big grocery store, Leclerc and 15 to 30 minutes from.just about any of the DDay sites and beaches.

Fantastic stay in Normandy
I brought my parents to Normandy and was so happy to have found Marie and her beautiful chateau. We absolutely had a great 4 days of touring and sightseeing, but equally enjoyed coming home to this magnificent place. Close to Bayeux for the tapestry and other site seeing, we also enjoyed dinners at Port en Bessin which was close and was a beautiful little fishing town. We also drove and did Mont St. Michel and made it back for flag lowering ceremony at 5:00 at the US Military Cemetery above Omaha. Marie was gracious and wonderful host. Her place was wonderful and historic. Will do it again!

Great fun with the kids!
We stayed for a week and enjoyed having enough space for everyone (there were 9 of us). The garden area was used by our teenage kids to play badminton, boule, get in the pool, play table tennis and generally charge around. We ate outside a couple of times and used the BBQ supplied which was great. A pleasant and enjoyable holiday.

Charming Chateau for a wonderful stay
The accommodations were great for our stay. We were able to comfortably fit 10 people (5 adults and 5 kids) for a total of 4 nights. Marie was gracious and made sure we had everything we needed for our stay and even helped us find the local market and other area attractions. She opened up her house for a tour and was a kind hostess. Marie made sure that the WiFi was up and running and we did not have any issues with it during out stay. If we are ever in the Normandy region again we would stay here again. Thanks for a wonderful time!

Grandmother’s house
We recently stayed here with four kids. This place feels like visiting your grandmother’s house in the country. Older home, but very comfortable. Don’t let the first impression out you off - our stay was very comfortable. The kids loved the ping pong table. The home is very convenient to Bayeux and the Normandy beaches. My only complaint is that the WiFi was very slow - my 256kb T-Mobile service was much faster.

The property is very spacious, in beautiful location very close to Bayeux. It comes with a massive garden with a pool offering lots of fun for the kids. Marie is very helpful, and all you need for a fantastic holiday is provided. The internet is sometimes a bit moody, but I would always highly recommend this place. Thank you very much Marie for a lovely time, Carla

Spacious accommodation idyllic setting
I stayed here with three friends on our tour of the Normandy battlefields and other cultural attractions. The village itself is very small but has a friendly bakery that opens everyday except Wednesday. The nearest town Port-en-Bassin is a short drive away and has a small supermarket and restaurants bars etc. Our host was very welcoming and upon our arrival took us to the town and showed us the local facilities. The location is very quiet but close enough to Bayeax and the major shops and main road to be very convenient. The house is quite basic but clean and functional and has all we needed for our stay, the weather was great so we BBQ'd every evening and ate on a large table in the rear courtyard. The highlight for me was watching a sparrow hawk hunting for bats over the back garden at dusk. The pool is clean and great for a cool down after a long day out, the walled garden would be very suitable for families with children but you would need to supervise them in the pool. Our host gave us a guided tour of the main chateaux which was very interesting and very worthwhile. Overall an excellent stay and good value for money. Très bien merci Martin.

Wonderful stay at Chateau de Vaulaville
Oh wow! What a beautiful & amazing place to stay! We traveled here with my family (husband, kids--14, 11, 6-- and myself) as well as uncle & cousin. We had plenty of room! The Chateau is very close to the DDay Beaches, Port-en-Bessin and Bayeux (15-20min drive). The history of the property is so fascinating and our hostess, Marie Helene, was so kind & helpful! She shared with us much about her family's history in the area, as well as touring us in her home. The Chateau itself is wonderful--an almost 300 year old "castle" (as my kids called it), but with a few modern conveniences. The kitchen & baths are updated, and the bedding is comfortable. There is nothing overly fancy about the inside, but everything works & you do feel like you are living in a piece of history. The kitchen is fine--we didn't cook meals here, but instead had baguettes & cheese & wine & there were ample plates, glasses & cutlery. My one suggestion would be to provide a few dish towels (bath towels are provided). The kids enjoyed visiting with the donkeys in the adjoining field, as well as the many farm kitties. It is so quiet here--someday I would love to come back just to enjoy the relaxing locale (too many great things to do, though--we explored the Normandie area a LOT!) We took many day trips from this perfectly central location: Omaha, Utah Beaches, Bayeux, Caen, Mont St Michel, Saint Malo. We also explored the closest town of Port-en-Bessin, which has nice restaurants & shops as well as a lovely harbor. Thank you Marie Helene for sharing your home & your history with us. We will never forget our time here!

Idyllic Setting in Normandy - Historic Chateau located proximate to Paris and heritage sites
It is difficult to express what a special place this is. In planning a side trip from Paris to Normandy, I searched high and low for a location that would combine ease of access with the beauty of the French countryside. What I found was beyond my expectations - so much so that I booked the large house (can sleep 8 to 10 comfortably) for my family of three. The outbuilding is spacious, clean and very well-equipped (they truly thought of everything). While the house is gorgeously historic, the bathrooms are modern and the kitchen is up-to-date, which made for a very comfortable visit. The house has a beautiful library full of books (French, some English and beautiful coffee table books, many about Normandy), games and DVDs though to be honest, we never turned on the TV. The grounds are lovely and my son loved running around visiting the donkey, the cat and the horses on property. The house is proximate to Utah Beach and Omaha Beach, Caen and Bayeux. It is also reasonably close to Rouen and the lovely seaside towns of Honfleur, Trouville and Deauville. While there are no larger markets in the town, one can find everything in Bayeux which is a lovely town within a short driving distance. One of the highlights of the trip was meeting Marie-Helene and her husband, the proud custodians of this historic gem, who proved to be warm, caring and gracious hosts. They shared with us the property's proud history, as well as that of their family, which was very moving. We had such a special visit to Normandy and much of it had to do with the character of the house and its owners. We long to visit again.

Pleasantly surprised with gracious chateau outbuildings and grounds!
This home away property was ideal for this family of 5 from the u.s. We loved the location 10 mins from Bayeix and surrounding towns in Normandy. It was easy to see the notable historic areas related to D-Day events. The spacious property allowed for needed "down time" in the early evenings. Kids could run around the property or chill out with extensive DVD selection. Kitchen allowed for breakfasts and it was easy to prepare dinner at home as well. The bathrooms were clean and adequate and our host was accessible and welcoming. There were many neighboring restaurants in towns nearby. All in all it was a positive experience and I would recommend the property.

Great place for a family!
A delightful June week in Normandy! Six adults and 2 grandkids, ages 5 and 11 enjoyed absorbing French history In Marie's Outbuilding. Mimi and Papa slept in the large bedroom with four twin beds and our two daughters with husbands each had a large private bedroom. It is conveniently located about 6 minutes from Bayeux and 10 minutes from Port Au Bessie. The property is accurately described, and as long as you understand the building really is a few hundred years old with all that entails, you should not be disappointed. The kitchen is well appointed and each morning we would drink our coffee while exploring the grounds, then meet for breakfast in the large dining room to plan the day's activities. In the late afternoon the kids enjoyed the trampoline or visiting with the two resident donkeys. The "library" is fully stocked with hundreds of videos (many in English) and books (mostly French). Marie is a wonderful hostess, and her tour of the castle and recounting of her family history was a highlight. One evening she guided us to her favorite restaurant in Port Au Bessin. Rent this property to experience the French countryside, history and have convenient access to the D-Day Beaches and Normandy sites. Realize it is not a 4 or 5 star hotel property, and if it tried to be it would losel its charm and attraction.
