Yes, the hotel is dated and contains all the quirks and uniqueness that goes with it. However! Staff - Friendly and respectful, check in was quick and easy. Room - Like staying in a mini apartment, equiped with a stove, large fridge, coffee machine, hide-a-bed in the living room and a separate bedroom. Overall room was very clean, there was zero smell (not even the "old building smell"). Great water pressure in the shower. Area - was convenient to amenities, shopping and transit. "Quieter" part of the city. Over-all: Would stay again! Price was right! Comparing to other accommodations in the lower mainland. Unless you're wanting a 5 star luxurious experiences with 5 star luxurious pricing, the Tropicana is comparable to any other hotel in the downtown area. Considering you will spend more to stay at a hostel with shared common areas - Book the Tropicana and get your own private experience!

Tough to think we spent over $200 to stay at their very old, very beat up hotel. But I guess this is now the cost of staying in Vancouver? The hallways and elevators were dirty. The bathroom, sheets and towels were clean. Yes we checked thoroughly because the place was so rough. We did not take our shoes off. there was an issue with our room not being ready when we arrived because they were "busy" She was able to sort it out and get us and all of our luggage into a room

The hotel is in a great location with free parking (bonus for a city break), the hotel is 15 mins walk from Canada Place and Stanley Park. It’s located near the shopping area of downtown. Our room was good, however some of the lighting required attention, the furniture is ok if a little tired in places,. The bed was extremely comfortable and the shower was hot with good pressure. The staff were excellent throughout our stay. A great breakfast is to be had at Cora’s directly opposite hotel. We had a great time in Vancouver

For an old hotel, we were pleasantly surprised with the size of the room, the massive windows in the living room area and the beautiful view of the city. Lots of fixing up needs to be done, but for a quick overnight in the city, it was great. And we'd stay again.👍

Great location, located on Robson St, central to downtown area and within walking distance of all the sites. The room was large (one bedroom suite with a kitchenette) and we had a partial view of the Vancouver Harbor. The hotel needs a major retrofit, the furniture is old and worn, cigarette burns on the sofa bed and curtain; cupboards were old and falling apart, carpet is old and worn. There is no A/C but the windows open - were didn't need A/C in late Sept. Parking is on site and included which is a good feature. Although the hotel staff are pleasant and tend to your needs, I wouldn't recommend this hotel unless your choices are very limited.

Over-priced and not very good. Examples: poor lighting in hallway and elevator, water stain in room ceiling, no screens on windows needed since there is no A/C, the kitchenette’s counter has chips in it, bathroom door doesn’t close all the way and has chips in it.
