I love this Hotel. Although a bit “old-fashioned”, it is always clean and comfortable (a good bed; important to one with a disability). The people are always very friendly and professional. The location, just behind the Government Buildings on the Inner Harbour, is quiet and very convenient. Govemment Street and the Inner Harbour are only about a block and a half away. Yet the greatest thing for me about this hotel, and why I return here almost every year - is the shuttle service. There is a first-come, first-served van which will take guests about 10 blocks in any direction, or pick them up from a pre-arranged spot (it used to be that one could ask to be picked up just about anywhere. Because of the traffic patterns now in effect, one gets picked up at an arranged spot). Because I have a disability, and walking more than a certain amount can be difficult to impossible, this is a real boon. Most often I ask the shuttle service to take me to around Herald Street or Chinatown in the morning - about the outer limit of the Inner Harbour walking area. I then make my way slowly back to the Hotel, walking at my own pace and stopping to shop, eat or explore. If it’s a particularly bad day physcially, I will call and ask to be picked up, too. The phone number is conveniently printed on the Room Key Card. This service is one of the main reasons I come back to the Royal Scot - yet everything is really quite satisfying here.
