Area

The first district

The picturesque first district makes up the historical heart of Vienna, where the magnificent Ringstraße, historical architecture, government buildings, touristic enterprises and large company headquarters come together to make the first district not only the touristic, but also the economic centre of the city. As the oldest of Vienna’s districts, dating back to the Roman ages, it has found a place on the UNESCO World Heritage list. The grand pedestrian shopping streets Graben and Kärntner Straße join at the central St. Stephen’s Square (Stephansplatz), where locals and tourists alike come together to enjoy the historic sights, browse through one of the many fashion stores, relish in a traditional Melange and Sacher cake in one of the famous Viennese coffee houses, or just stroll through the winding side streets and take in the Viennese atmosphere.

The location

The apartment is located in Spiegelgasse, a side street off the Graben, between the central St. Stephen’s Square (Stephansplatz) and Albertina Museum – a truly unbeatable address. Its unique and central location makes it the perfect starting point from which to discover Vienna city and all of its magnificent nooks and crannies. Some of Vienna’s most note-worthy sights, such as the Hofburg Palace complex, City Hall and St. Stephen’s Cathedral are just a few minutes of walking away. Lovers of arts, sciences, and imperial collections can enjoy a trip to the Fine Arts Museum (Kunsthistorisches Museum), Natural History Museum (Naturhistorisches Museum), Albertina Museum or Imperial Treasury (Kaiserliche Schatzkammer). Those that want a break from the bustle of the city can retreat to the Burggarten Park or City Hall Square (Rathausplatz) Park. The metro station just around the corner at Stephansplatz connects you to the metro lines U1 and U3.

Bars and restaurants

The apartment is surrounded by many small boutiques and restaurants which are just as popular with the locals as with tourists. Grab a lunch at lovely French Bistro Le Bol before spending the afternoon enjoying a traditional Melange and treat at Kurkonditorei Oberlaa or Café Hawelka. You can further soak in the infamous Viennese coffee house culture in traditional favourites such as the Café Central, Café Landtmann or Café Sacher. For an authentic Greek dinner, head to Orpheus, before topping off the evening with a delicious cocktail or Spritzer while overlooking Vienna’s rooftops and the stunning St. Stephen’s Cathedral (Stephansdom) at elegant Sky Bar or Do & Co Hotel Bar.
Make yourself comfortable in your apartment, which features a refrigerator. Conveniences include a phone and a washing machine.

Hidden Gem in the Heart of the Heart of Vienna
Where to begin? Okay, location. I doubt you'll find another flat in Vienna so well situated from which to see this beautiful city. Turn right out of the flat and St. Stephen's Cathedral immediately appears. Turn left and walk but a few minutes and the Hofburg Palace is upon you. The Hapsburg Imperial Crypt (a must see) is two minutes away as well. The location is ideal and two of my guides were deeply impressed with the address, in a very upscale and genteel neighborhood. Other sites are readily accessible from there because I accessed them easily. Then there's the flat: it was always a treat to return to it at the end of the day and then from dinner. Accessing it is very easy as the host provides crystal clear instructions. The flat itself has everything you need: a large shower with very strong water pressure & endless hot water. A sink with lighted mirror & toilet completes it. There is a large living room with a sofa couch, table and chairs and a kitchen with everything for making coffee or to do some light cooking. It has two large windows that open to let the fresh Viennese air in, morning or evening. The bedroom on the other side is very comfortable; I slept soundly. This room also has two large windows for light & air, with a pull down shade for privacy or light reduction at night. The host is gracious & at your disposal should you have any questions. The WiFi was strong and constant. I'm an experienced traveler & long time user of VRBO. This was one of my best experiences.

Heart of Vienna
The biggest asset of the property in the location that could not be aby better. Just feet from the center of old Vienna and the cathedral. The convenience allows you to really experience Vienna up close. Short walks to the Opera, the many churches, shops, restaurants made the trip so enjoyable. That said the place is very small with beds that make sleep a bit difficult, The place had no supplies such as soaps, shampoos, detergent, napkins, paper towels, etc. For an 8 day stay the place had one roll of toilet paper and no tissue. We did not expect much, but got even less. Three plates, three forks, three spoons, etc. The wine opener was not functional so we had to leave it in the fridge because we could not open the bottle without wasting precious time hunting for a bottle opener. The location is primo, it could be five stars with just a little effort.

Perfect location, but far from cozy/charming apartment
Location is perfect, however, we were a little disappointed with a few things:It is mentioned that the apartment is cozy. We do not agree. The apartment is far from cozy/charming – especially the kitchen/living room. There was supposed to be a sofa/sofa bed in the living room, there wasn’t, there was an extra single bed with 1 (one!) small sofa cushion. No place to sit and relax when we came home late afternoon/late evening – except for two dining chairs. There were 3 duvets and 3 pillows, no blankets. We stayed here in November/December and there was practically no heating. We arrived Thursday midday at a cold apartment. When we came home in the evening, the heating was on till around 22:00, but not long enough to heat up the apartment. Friday morning the heating was on at 8:00-9:00, short term in the middle of the day, at 22:30 when we came home it was off. Saturday morning it was on for 30 minutes and again off in the evening. On Sunday, where we left the apartment at 10:00, it wasn’t on at all. At no time during the stay the apartment felt warm and my girlfriend used the extra duvet during the night to stay warm.We could hear all noice outside due to missing isolation in the windows (there is a bar 2 floors down with an outside smoking area right under the bedroom window). In addition to that, we could clearly hear the neighbors walking around, talking and using the zink as clearly as if they were in our apartment.
