The owner is apparently never available and the young barman is left to book people in and can't deal with any problems. When I was there someone had booked through Hotels.com but the barman couldn't find any room keys so the customer had to find somewhere else.
I arrived and could not locate the "hotel" I went into a restaurant that informed me the "hotel" was a room above and had a door at the rear next to the dustbins.
I banged on the door but no reply.
I called the landline phone number supplied by Expedia and the restaurant answered it.
The restaurant told me they were sick and tired of fielding calls and that there was never anyone onsite. Its a dive in a field above the restaurant. I cannot emphasis enough never ever book there. When I called Expedia they brushed me off and said the "hotel" took my money directly so no refund. I won't be using Expedia again either.
I arrived at the place eventually to find no sign or direction to a hotel. Just a restaurant called Tamarind that has some rooms above it and had nothing to do with them!
There was no answer on the phone numbers provided and no way to access the rooms! This was late at night and I was very tired after a long journey, I had to now find another hotel!
I strongly suspect that this is a scam! Please Expedia investigate this because I don’t want others to have the same horrible experience as myself
Could not find the hotel as it has changed it’s name and not changed the name on the internet sites. Eventually found it and a staff member.
Staff member was not expecting me and said ‘oh it’s a good job I still have a room left’
I asked about breakfast as it states to book at site he said’ We don’t do breakfast here’
Asked for a receipt for my payment, he said ‘I don’t know how to do that I am only young’
In my room, I found a dirty carpet, hadn’t been hoovered, dirty waste bin, hadn’t been emptied, toilet hadn’t been flushed and none of the amenities offered on the description on the Internet.
Photos added
The towel was faded and stank of body odour (I did not realise this till the next day after having showered)
I had taken my own tea/coffee and mug as I travel a lot during the week.
The room was noisy as the restaurant kitchen was below and the window would not shut to reduce the noise.
The landing/hall light didn’t activate until I was downstairs by the entrance door, hence having to negotiate he stairs in the dark.
The shower was accessible by a foot wide gap in the bathroom and the drainage system was clearly not working as the shower tray filled with water and didn’t drain away.
This is definitely not a place for Lone females or families to stay. It needs drastic improvement. I have stayed in a lot of budget hotels for the same money and had a much better experience.
It could be so much better.

Cheap & Cheerful
Hotel Crofton Arms might have been the name at one stage, but now days the Inn is mainly an Indian resturant called Tamarind Exotic Traditional Indian Cuisine.
This makes finding the place when you are looking for the Crofton Inn Hotel impossible.
However the room was clean and cheap, so can't complain. The walls are very thin, so any noise in the corrdior you can hear it clearly.

As you would expect for the price
When I arrived it was not clear it was even a hotel as it just looks like an Indian restaurant under a different name. Room was basic but fine for £25. There was no soap or tea/coffee facilities as advertised. The room needed a deep clean. Bed was comfortable and shower was good. Heating was on all night so nice and cosy too.
Friendly owner in charge ,,,,,,, basic room but clean ,,,,, nice clean toilet / shower room,,,
all upstairs o/k ,,,,, no restaurant or food as all the downstairs undergoing refurbishment,
outlook ,,,, very good, a huge field opposite,,, pleasant view.

Functional, tidy with improving future possible
Premesis currently undergoing revamp and downstairs rebuild so no food/ refreshment. Rooms clean and basic. Functional more than comfortable but was reasonably priced.
Well, where do I start?? Arriving at the property, I was confronted with what can only be described as a building site. The signage for the 'hotel' was missing and the car park resembled something out of the film 'Carry on Abroad'. The entrance to the 'hotel' was a piece of paper tacked onto a side door. I stepped into the 'bar area' which looked more like someone was moving house. The owner was a friendly chap who booked me in and apologised for the 'building renovation' I asked about breakfast but he wasn't able to offer this service but suggested I go to the 24 hour garage for food. (I'm glad I packed some food for my journey and had to eat this). He showed me to the room which was at first glance clean. He showed me how to use the television and where the bathroom was. I looked in the loo to find human excrement in the loo itself. At this point, I considered sleeping in my car which looking at the property, is worth more than the place. The owner continued to chat and offered for me to have a drink in the bar but I was keen to get to my destination in Wakefield. On my return later, he was up and greeted me and thanked me for my overnight stay. I left early in the morning for my onward journey and left the key in the deposit box. I accept I only paid £18 for the stay but poor housekeeping and offering this property as a 'Hotel' is not an accurate description.
Warm, friendly welcome. Large sized room with incredible power shower. Everything I needed for an excellent price!

Good place to stay to break your journey .
Friendly staff. My daughter, her boyfriend, my dog and myself needed an overnight stop off travelling from the Scottish Highlands to East Sussex. This was just right, near enough to motorway but on edge of countryside, so we didn't have to go off route and I found a lovely footpath to keep my Labrador happy. The room had three comfortable beds and we all had a good nights sleep. My only criticism is that the décor wasn't great, especially in the on suit shower/toilet. That said, the water was lovely and hot and there were ample clean towels. For a nights stop over, this is excellent value for money.
