Sadly, this property is starting to look tired back stage – nice in the reception, brasserie etc, but the bedrooms could do with an upgrade. Heating in our system was so noisy we turned it off, but then woke up in the middle of the night with the room temp at 24C (even in December!) Staff were mixed. Some like the front doorman, or the waiter in the brasseries (a local lad from the Wirral) were warm and friendly. Many though were curt at best and didn't look overly enamoured with their job. Quite a few struggled with their English, which is not exactly helpful in the hospitality industry. We have stayed a few times over the years and it is a grand hotel, but it is starting to lose its lustre. We had a good time, (partly because we made sure we were going to), next time in Chester we will probably stay in another nice hotel. Food in the Brasserie was only average.

I arrived quite late for a one-night stay, but the experience was truly memorable thanks to the exceptional staff. From the evening check-in to the morning team, everyone was incredibly friendly and welcoming—it’s clear they are well-trained and dedicated to providing top-notch service. I was pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a stunning suite that made my visit all the more special. The only minor hiccup? The half bottle of wine from the mini bar was priced at £22, which felt a bit steep for what it was. Overall, though, my stay was fantastic, and Chester is fortunate to have such a gem as the Grosvenor!

I treated my husband to a night at the Chester Grosvenor for his birthday, and what a special night it was. Check in was smooth, and I was pleasantly surprised to be told continental breakfast was included in my rate (I had forgotten), or you can upgrade to a full cooked for around £12pp. The room was large, with a huge bed and a nice large clean bathroom. Our meal in La Brasserie was just delightful, my husband is still raving about the pig cheeks starter, the venison main he had, and the artisan cheeses to finish off with. Our first time to have a bottle of Lebanese wine too! All very nice. We finished off with a night cap at the bar. The hotel was decked out all Christmassy as our stay was end of November and it looked so pretty. All the staff are so friendly and like to have a joke with you. We will definitely be back here.

Christmas short break
Another lovely stay at The Chester Grosvenor. We had a complimentary upgrade to an executive room which was a nice surprise. Staff helpful and polite. Good breakfast, we chose the continental breakfast this time but had a full breakfast the last time that we stayed. Beautifully decorated for Christmas. We hope to return again.
