Rose and Crown Wisbech
Just wanted a clean room to sleep in for one night. It ticked the box but very basic.
Although several reviews were bad we thought we would still stay. On arrival we were met by manager who explained that there was no bar of food available in the Hotel which we already new. The room was spacious and clean which everything we required beds, coffee and tele. It was well heated. The bathroom was very large by hotel standards and included a full size bath. Again nothing bad to say. If you looking for a comfortable clean stay this could be your place.
As I said not food available but there was a Wetherspoons about 6 minute walk away and and 50 yards away is "Pizza Crazy", which not only does pizzas but burgers, chips, chicken dippers and more at really good prices. Highly recomment.

It's a shame
The manager and staff were friendly, but it is a real shame that this hotel, with such great potential, is now used as a place for asylum seekers and owned by Egyptians. Because of this, we were told, there is no bar or breakfast available (as there used to be before) and the hotel just seems like it is run down and unloved now. It could be so great.
Old world hotel with 400+ years old wonky staircase. Room was basic but suited my needs and this was the second time i stayed there so that says something
From start to finish this property was excellent as always I've been here four times now so just shows that it's revisitable it's pleasant is clean the rooms are huge at the bathrooms are modern and well equipped and the receptionist is very nice and makes you feel welcome so I would rate it 10 out of
Nice spacious room large bathroom. Facilities ok. Shower tap was difficult to operate. Wi fi didy work in our room. Loud noise outside room for short while.
Hotel has seen better days. Only 2* at best. No bar, restaurants, room service. Single beds were extremely uncomfortable. Pillows awful. Shower was a drizzle. Had to ask for clean towels, coffee and tea sachets
Staff were friendly. Not a nice area. Didn't feel safe especially at night. Feel cheated by Hotels.com description
Sheet did not fit the bed, pillows stained snd smelled sweaty and old.
Description stated queen bed, it was two singles pushed together and of different heights and firmness.
Desvription stated an Iron was available, none so asked at reception none available even though ironing board in room.
Room dirty with debris on floor.
Windows dirty and didnt close properley, rattled and noise came in from outside.
Only a small amount of toilet paper on roll, had to ask at reception for amother roll.
Very poor stay.

I arrived Monday and left Tuesday,as arranged, the room was ok for the price however there was a stale smell like old books in the room. The bar and restaurant wasn't open and as I arranged to meet a special guest this was inconvenient.

The Rose and Crown Hotel, dating back to the 15th century, is a Grade II listed building that served as a historic coaching inn in Wisbech. Its architecture features a blend of Tudor and Georgian styles, with a Tudor façade, exposed oak beams, and a period fireplace, while the Georgian front was added in the 18th century. The building retains much of its original structure, showcasing the evolution of English architecture over centuries. These preserved historical elements reflect its long-standing role in the town's history as a prominent stop for travellers and merchants.
I booked this hotel for our aunt and uncle who were coming to visit, as i thought a hitel would be more comfortable than sleeping on our sofas or an airbed. We dropped them at the hotel around 8pm and collected them at 7am the next day. They said it was awful, dirty, and couldn't get into the bed and rather slept on top of it and used towels (which they had taken with them) as a "duvet"
They said they wanted to call us in the night to collect them, but didnt want to disturb us. (As we have a baby and toddler) i got a call from the hotel to ask for feedback, i told them awful and i got an empty apology. I would not recommend staying here.
Also, the heater was on full heat yet it had been about 24⁰c that day, no need for heating!!!
We live fairly locally and will make sure people are aware not to recommend to others who may be visiting family/friends.

A welcome stop on the way to a funeral.
Some of the hotel was built in the 1600s . It was a very interesting building. The staircase was grade 1 listed and we were on the third floor so it was a bit wonky to get up there. It was 2 star so we weren't expecting anything more. Our room was clean and comfortable but on the list to be refurbished. Our daughter's room was not up to the cleanliness of ours. The bed hadn't been changed and was broken in one corner.
The people on reception were very keen to hear our views and put things right.
