The hotel is situated on the beach in Stone Town which is really convenient for exploring the town. Our room was big and everything worked as it should. The hotel has a restaurant on the beach and the breakfast was a buffet spread. There are also 3 pools in the hotel. Overall, a decent hotel.

Beatiful hotel in a great location
We had the presidential suite and it was beautiful! The furniture was very cool and the views were gorgeous. The staff was super friendly and went out of thei way to make us feel comfortable.

Loved the view from the property and location is great right in stone town. We were surprised with an extra charge for an additional person as the booking had 2 adults in a triple room but it was supposed to be 3 adults in a triple room. Also beware, there are taxes to be paid on site also. Other than these surprise charges we had a lovely stay at Tembo.

The vibes were immaculate. Our room had a private balcony overlooking the ocean on one side, and another balcony good for people watching. The food was great, everything was clean, and, oh... right on the beach and in the middle of the action in Stone Town.

The good: Beautiful, well kept property Staff were friendly and helpful Breakfast was very good Two pools were very nice Convenient location to all of Stonetown Lovely sunsets on the beach So-so: Dinner menu was unremarkable- we ate dinner there once and had much better elsewhere They tried to put us in a street view room despite our having paid for a sea view. They moved us once I complained No alcohol allowed on premises. Not a big deal to us but it was nice to have a drink with dinner elsewhere. For the price this is a great place to stay and we’d stay again. Recommended.

Zanzibar is challenging to tour and relies mostly on expensive taxis. Therefore we found it far better to stay central in the island in the fabulous Stonetown capital. The best 'traditional' hotel by a mile is the historic Tembo House Hotel. Situated on the coast with private beach, two swimming pools and views of the small coastal boats to die for. Rooms were spacious and cleaned each day, Lots of choice at Buffet style breakfast. Downside was that the hotel does not sell any Alcohol but all the bars and hotels just 2-minutes walk away do - the terraced South Africa Fish Market restaurant which overlooks the sea has ambient chill music and excellent food. The Tembo House restaurant meals are not recommended and the staff are very noisy even at 2am in the morning which spoils it.
