Six reasons to check in at the Pullman Sydney, Hyde Park
It’s a whirlwind work trip that brings me to Sydney and the Pullman Hyde Park, a funky inner-city business hotel just on the fringes of – you guessed it, Hyde Park.
Here’s six of my fave reasons to stay here:
1. (Just for fun) The people you meet in the corridor
Not just any people. Turns out the Queensland Reds are here during my stay, and I manage to have a semi-awks’ moment with one of the players, who’s tiptoeing out of the lift as I’m closing my door while wearing… *gulp * ..only a towel.
Unfortunately my knowledge of football/rugby league is about as good as my knowledge of quantum mechanics, so whoever you are I just want to say- sweet six pack 😉
Now, on to the serious stuff 😉
2. That pool!
This pool just screams epic splashy times. I mean, look at it!
And that view! It’s when I walk over to the glass barricade that the magic of the Pullman pulls me in. If only it was summer time 🙁
There’s also a spa and gym on the same level, which must have been where the shirtless man came from. This can only mean one thing- he’d been working out or… ”working out”. Wait, did I witness a walk of shame?
3. The bed
Now, I’d had a HECTIC work week and about eight glasses of wine before I arrived at the Pullman (thanks Nicole Gentle), so you could say I was a bit tired (read: tipsy). I’m so glad my room greeted me with this:
Getting into my king bed makes me feel like that old Philadelphia Cheese ad– the one where the angel is playing a harp and eating cheese and crackers in Heaven. Yep, that good.
I wake up at 6am to what seems like an orange laser beam shooting light into the centre of my head. It’s the sun reflecting off the glass windows of the buildings opposite Hyde Park, straight into my bedroom. Cursing the fact I’d forgotten to shut my curtains the night before, I stand at the window, one eye half open. Hyde Park stares back at me, full of little humans making shapes below with their bodies.
The view is gorgeous, but Tai Chi at this time in the morning? Nope. *Shuts curtains*
4. Interesting features
Fresh from their 2013 renos, there’s three Instagrammable features (apart from the pool, of course) at the Pullman.
The first is the living plant wall at the front of the building. If you haven’t had eight glasses of wine, it’s the first thing you’ll see when you walk inside.
The second is the carpet. It’s like a packet of Jaffas meets Grimace from McDonald’s. It’s psychedelic and awesome!
The third is the chandelier in Reception. I guarantee your neck will hurt from staring at it.
5: Waffles
After a brief nap to recover from my 6am blinding, I go to find sustenance. Giggling from my shirtless encounter, I cruise to the second floor and sit down at Windows Restaurant, where I quickly get caffeinating.
The brekkie buffet has all the staples you want- pastries, cheese, smoothies, a chef making fresh omelettes, and a plate full of waffles.
I have no shame getting two of these and smearing them with peanut butter and Nutella. Oh yeahhhhh. What hangover?
6: It’s close to all the things!
That’s what you want when you’re away from home with a hangover. One of three Pullmans in Sydney, the Hyde Park property is a $12 taxi ride from Darling Harbour (in good traffic) and a quick walk from World Square and Oxford Street. It’s also close enough to Town Hall to roll a four-wheeled bag there without getting lost.
Which is just what I did. Booyah.
