Dutch Disappointment.
This apartment although well located this is not a cute house, it is a typical old renovated apartment building. The elevator was broken, very steep and dangerous stairs to drag up and down. Bed, linens, dishes were poor. The owner was friendly and helpful. He thankfully offered us a fan due to the record breaking hot weather. The room was very small but had big windows that overlooked gardens. Below Motel 6 standards.
Decent comfortable conveniently located apt w/o AC
The owner/manager Gerald is a very friendly & lovely man. There’s no person at the front desk, so we made arrangements to meet him for the keys. He wrote out a map for us & gave us tips. The place was basically a studio, fairly clean but outlets were dusty, no a/c (which might be common for many hotels in Amsterdam), linens were all mismatched (more of an aesthetic thing vs functionality) The water pressure was very low & It always took multiple flushes to get the paper down regardless if it was #1 or #2) It was loud as there was construction going on outside. There are VERY narrow flights of stairs to get to the apt, they lift only transports luggage. So do not book if you can’t handle 2 flights of stairs. The door leading to the hallway with several of rented rooms was left wide open several times we came home. The street itself is a narrow one way street, so not much traffic comes in & out. Fairly safe neighborhood, close walking distance to places but not much to do in the surrounding area other than a handful of shops & restaurants.
The host was great. Room was spacious. Location was perfect. Walking distance to everything. Definitely would stay there again.

Good location, but a bit noisy at night
The location of this apartment is great, and for the price it really is about as close to the action as you're going to get, plenty of bars, cafes and shops nearby and all the touristy stuff can be walked to.
It can be a bit noisy in the street late at night (we had a front facing room) but if you're planning to be out until the small hours of the morning then it's porbably going to be you that's causing the noise! The windows aren't double-glazed so even when closed the street noise can still be heard. It's also easy to listen in to what's going on in the next apartment too, as the walls seem to be quite thin! If noise is going to be a problem for you to sleep then this might not be the best place for you.
The room is very spacious, with a private bathroom across the hall, although the hall door doesn't lock (the room and bathroom doors do!) The bathroom is spacious and clean with a lovely big walk in shower and a jacuzzi bath (although this wasn't working when we were there) there's also twin washbasins which is handy. Lots of hot water too!
The kitchen is a bit dated but functional and could do with a bit more cutlery - two complete sets isn't really enough.
Couple of other things I would add; a bedside table and light on each side of the bed, a bed headboard, some more large glasses and some coffee mugs.
But for the price and the location it's not bad at all.

Great location
Good central location. There must have been a sewer leak as the smell was bad. Thin walls do not provide much privacy. Multiple locks on doors had the effect of feeling locked in not more secure.
Good size room, great location (close to everything; museums, shopping and site seeing). There is no full time concierge so you have to call in advance. Things you need to know and ask: 1 - the stairs; if you travel with bulky luggage (like I did) ask for assistance there is an elevator that can be used, and 2 - the toiled for the room I stayed is accessible through a common hallway, that was a bit of surprise. It is only for this room, so it "personal" just a step across the hall. Over all the feeling is if you stayed at friends house at a spare bedroom. I would recommend if staying in the city for some time, or easy going. The place is clean, all you need is there and plenty of hot water. If you need a hairdryer they will provide just ask for it when you check in.
Excellent room on walking distance from Amsterdam centrum highly recommended.

Location was good
Loved the city and things to do day and night everything at walking distance. Got lost a couple of times but on the third day got a 24 hour cannal and sightseeing tour bus ticket which put everything in purspective and suddenly realised my bearings should of done this on the 2nd day
The staff was super friendly and they made sure someone was available to receive me in even though i showed up much earlier than the check-in time, the room was clean and there is free wifi, the area seemed safe and the location is great, the only comment is that there is no reception desk (ie there isn't a personnel sitting at a desk 24/7 if you need help, but they respond to phone calls and go the extra mile to help).
I would totally go back, it is excellent for the price.
I love this place. You can get around to all the areas of Amsterdam easily and when you need your quiet space for a while. It is here...lovely
Also, this place is for self-starters...If you want to have room-service and all that...this is not your place.
But it works for me...
Good location, easy access to transport and canals. Gerard is an excellent host and was quick in contacting us with information once we had made the booking.

Great Location
It was a little tricky entering our room. The lift was not available to take our luggage downstairs.
Tram stop is a block away, and it's walking distance to the Van Gogh museum and the cool restaurant district at Leidsplein.

Description on the web didn't meet what actually was offered, after intervention it got slightly better. Person on the site was not very helpful we needed to ask the owner to sort problems out who was abroad at the time; including when accidentally smoke alarm in empty neighburing room went on; simply person responsible for maintenace didn't respond to phonecalls; finally we spent one night sleepless.
True to its name, Excellent Rooms Amsterdam offers exceptionally clean, efficient, and comfortable space to stay in Amsterdam. Located in the South Canal Ring where you are more likely to run into locals than tourists, the hotel gives you not only access to all the tourists attractions in the city but also chances to explore small neighborhood cafes, restaurants, and shops. Early morning walk over bridges over canals in the area is another and even more precious thing you can do while you stay there. The hotel's proprietor, Gerard, does a fabulous job of managing place and welcoming people who step into this wonderful place.
I am going to open up with the negatives since it is a short list and not the hotels control. Some hooligans trashed the hallway on their way out the last night we were there . Lastly the bed was not as comfy as my bed which is more of a personal issue because I have sleep issues, but it was still pretty comfy and my partner had no trouble at all with it. The Owner was very welcoming and sweet. He wants to make sure you have a good time and works with you to make sure you get what you want out of your stay.
While the rooms were located in an ideal situation for the museums we were un impressed by several items.
Lift was listed in the description BUT only luggage was allowed in the lift as it went into the hosts room
Our private bathroom was actually a shower in the room with a curtain around it. Our toilet was across the hall and while the host assured us this was for our sole use we heard him telling other guests the following day to feel free to use it... which they duly did as we found our "private toilet" occupied several times
The duvet and pillows were very old and uncomfortable with very old linen
The pipes of the heating clicked all night - think Chinese water torture
Strangely a magazine rack with 53 magazine but NO drawer or cupboard to put you underwear.... there was a free standing clothes rail with 6 hangers but who hangs up their socks???
On the upside spacious, quiet location, but more importantly ideal for students
Clean, simple apartment in the middle of Amsterdam
Gerard was an excellent host. He was there to meet us very late in the evening to let us in and show us the apartment, stored our bags for us on the last day and called us a cab.
The hotel/apartment is very simple, a big bed, a table, a microwave and coffee machine, and some cups/plates. The shower is also very big and quite nice. Safe neighborhood in close walking distance to nearly every major sight seeing destination.
no better place to stay in A'dam,no cause to whine
I loved being around the corner from most everything in a city pulsing with energy and youth on a weekend - the location made it easy to take a break midday so I could keep up into the evening! I found my room exactly as described, and in the Dutch way plenty comfortable but practical and a reasonable price. I didn't expect (or pay for) lots of frills -- but it was larger than I expected, and the big shower and wall of windows were especially nice. I didn't skimp when I booked though, and would recommend that you either get a room with your own bathroom if that is important - or you resolve not to whine if you chose a cheaper option! I would echo other reviewers' praise for Gerard, the host. He was very kind in recommending where and how to go, and always friendly when I ran into him during my stay. Also important to me: transfers to/from the airport were a breeze. I'll hope to be back soon!
Definitely not what I booked. The description was embellished. It was not a hotel. It was an apartment building of 3 rooms for rent. Our room had the toilet across the hall. I was told the other 2 rooms had the toilet inside the rooms. We were told we could change room at the convenience of the care taker, whom we communicated via note on the table. Once we checked in we never saw the care taker. We heard all the noise from upstairs and whoever entered the building. I would not recommend this place for a stay in Amsterdam . There was no amenities, towels only.
