La Casa de Melgar Hostal is a good value. They have complimentary breakfast and free wi-fi.
The buildings look original and the aesthetics make this hostel feel like it's part of the monastery. It's got a almost whimsical feel.
The bathroom needs updating. We had to turn the sink faucet a couple times just to get a little water to come out. For the shower, it took about 10 minutes of running the water in order to get hot water to come out. And, the toilet flush button got jammed, which resulted in a constant sound of running water.
The room itself was moderately sized. There weren't a lot of outlets in the room, so we had to unplug the TV and bedside lamp in order to charge our phones and camera batteries. As for the bed, it didn't look like it would be comfortable as the mattress was rather thin, but I was able to sleep fairly well.
Beware, if you stay here, don't let the wool blanket touch your skin. Two of my friends I traveled with made that mistake and had bug bites in the morning. I don't think they were bed bugs, but possibly mite bites or something else.
This hostel could be great if they improve the facility a little bit and clean their blankets better.
