Not the hotel’s fault but the road construction in that area made it a little more difficult to navigate. The hotel is very clean but needs to be updated.

I booked for a room with a harbor view, when I ask the desk person about this he told me if I could produce an email that might make a difference for another day. The hotel was full so I would not get a harbor view. Air conditioner didn’t work right called twice, carpets were dirty worn out in the hall. Dirty elevator buttons on 1st floor you didn’t want to touch, poor service for towels, or room pick up until the 3rd day unless you called for something.

We arrived at the hotel about 9:00 pm & we checked out 9:00am the next morning. There was a scheduled water shut off from 10:00 pm - 6:00 am. I don’t remember getting notified of this and thought we should have at least gotten a discount.

We quite liked the hotel. It was unfortunate that there was a lot of construction going on around the hotel making it difficult to get in and out. Of course, this was not the fault of the hotel.

The Hotel Halifax is nicely located and has a historic feel. Had a side view of the Harbour which was nice. The restaurant food was good.

When we arrived, we were placed in a room that was next to one under construction. It was so loud - sounded like they were jackhammering. We went to the front desk to ask to be moved. We were told the hotel was fully booked and they couldn’t accommodate us. They assured us it was the last day of construction. We passed by the front desk again later that day and again asked if there was anything they could do. The gentleman said construction should be finished and is only from 10am to 1pm. I told him at 6pm they were still at it - and again he told me they end at 1pm. So again I stated that at 6pm they were still at it. He excused himself and then came back and informed me that in fact construction did run late that day. I was stunned that they didn’t believe me to begin with and also they they couldn’t move us as the hotel was full. But he reassured us the construction wouldn’t start until 10am and it should only be light taps as it was almost over. The next morning, we were awoken at 8:15am by very loud jackhammering. We called the front desk right away and thankfully we got a new person at the front desk who moved us into a different area where we couldn’t hear the construction. It’s frustrating that it took three different employees to finally move us. We were given different stories from each employee on noise level and hours. Thankfully the last employee was able to move us so that we could actually enjoy our vacation.

It was conveniently located. The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The best feature was the ability to accommodate my dog. The area was undergoing a great deal of construction but I’m sure that when that is finished the outdoor area will improve. I will definitely be back.

As a VIP nothing was offered to me. The staff were excellent and helpful. The property needs a real over haul. The carpet is dingy and dirty throughout. Construction made it difficult to park and leave the hotel as we had to go through the mall which was locked at night making this extremely inconvenient. Excellent location and view from my room. One elevator was broken which was also not helpful. Renovations needed for it to be top rated again.
