Fishermen Beach Lovers Snowbirds Unique Bon Secour River Cabin, Pet Friendly!

The Fish Camp cabin is located on the Bon Secour River. The Bon Secour river has historically been a "working" river for shrimp boats and fishermen. Commercial shrimp boats ply the river and use Bon Secour as a base from which they travel all the Gulf of Mexico. The name "Bon Secour" was given the river by French sailing crews who found the river to be a safe haven from storms. The very name means "good anchorage" and "safe harbor." During the Civil War the South used the waters of the river to obtain salt and for years the remnants of the salt pits could still be seen. The Union army recognized the importance of the salt production and mounted a specific attack to destroy the pits. An example of a Southern mansion, "The Swift Cole House " is located within one mile of the fish camp and is available for touring.

The property includes a long dock on the river with two covered sitting areas. Boat dockage is available for guests. A boat launch is at the end of the street. The cabin is part of an original fish camp, consisting of ten cabins. The Fish Camp cabin was believed to be the owner/manager's cabin as it consisted of two bedrooms where the other original cabins were efficiencies. The Fish Camp cabin has been renovated with all the amenities, but keeps it's original, rustic character. The cabin has beamed ceilings and heart pine floors. The cabin has a living, kitchen, and dining area combination. The cabin also has a charming fireplace updated with gas logs. The wooden furniture was made locally by a Bon Secour craftsman. There are two bedrooms with a hallway and bathroom separating the bedrooms. The kitchen is completely furnished for cooking your favorite seafood recipe. New refrigerator, gas stove, microwave and dishwasher are available for guest's use. The kitchen has new granite countertops. A storage building next to the cabin contains a clothes washer and dryer. Designated parking is available next to the cabin.

The fish camp's spectacular 150 year old liveoak tree overlooks the river and dock and there is a swing for use by guests. Within walking distance of the cabin are two fish houses where fish and shrimp are unloaded directly from the boats. Fresh caught gulf shrimp are always available and fresh fish include speckled trout, flounder, grouper, red fish, mullet and many other species. World famous Bon Secour oysters are always available.

There is a front screened porch with river views. Guests can see shrimp boats traveling up and down the river. Dolphins can frequently be observed swimming in the river. The area is excellent for fishing right from the dock for speckled trout, redfish or flounder. Guests will have access to a crab trap, to try your hand at catching blue crabs. If you don't catch your dinner, there is an excellent restaurant close by, the Tin Top. You can't go wrong with anything ordered there.

The location is also perfect for those wanting beach access, but a more private, quaint setting. Beautiful Gulf Shores beaches and all the beach attractions are close by. The State Park Facilities provide beautiful beach areas, and a long fishing pier. Bon Secour Wildlife Refuge has hiking trails and beaches. Fort Morgan is a historic site and also has public beaches. Designated bird watching sites are throughout this area.

The Bon Secour Fish Camp is perfect for those wanting a unique beach and/or fishing experience without the hassle of beach crowds. The Fish Camp is a little "off the beaten path". Perfect for a week end getaway or longer term rental. Come and enjoy!
Make yourself comfortable in this air-conditioned cottage, which features a fireplace. There's a private patio. A kitchen is outfitted with a refrigerator, an oven, and a stovetop. Conveniences include a microwave and a coffee/tea maker.
This smoke-free cottage features books, ecotours nearby, and snorkeling nearby. Recreational activities include surfing/body boarding nearby, hiking/biking trails nearby, and kayaking nearby.
Guests will find features like internet access and onsite parking.

Absolutely Perfect
This cabin was the perfect place for us to call home for a week! It was close enough to the ocean but yet far enough removed to relax from the hustle and bustle. The cabin was clean, comfortable and had all the things needed to make this an amazing stay! We absolutely loved the pier and spent most morning there. My kids set crab traps and caught 8 soft shell blue crabs, which wasn’t enough for dinner so we let them go, but it was so fun. My son caught a few fish too. Linda was amazing and sent us to the Tin Top down the road to have a bite to eat after our 14 hr drive and the food was incredible. Everything about the Deep South is true, the people are so nice, the food was amazing, the ocean was gorgeous and our fishing cabin was perfect. Pensacola is a short hour drive and so is Fort Morgan which is a must see. Thank you so sharing your cabin with us!

Weekend Get Away
Me, my in-laws (70's) and my nephew (10) wanted a quiet place for a weekend beach get away. We had never heard of Bon Secour, but after discovering this property on VRBO we didnsome research and loved the history of the little town so we decided to book this cabin. It was perfect! Very clean, the neighbors were friendly, and the location couldnt have been better! We spent a day fishing from the dock and watching the dolphins in the bay and we made a short drive over to Gulf Shores for some exploring. There are seafood markets close by that were very reasonable so we were able to cook at home and enjoy fresh seafood. Plenty of restaurants within a short distance (The Tin Top was on my list of places to eat, but the food must be amazing because they were always so so busy! We had to skip it this trip, but will plan better in the future!). This cabin was even pet friendly so my father-in-law was able to bring his fur baby. We will for sure check for openings at this cabin the next time we head to the beach! Such a quiet, clean, well stocked cabin! The owners were so accomodating and easy to reach. We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend! loved the

We enjoyed our stay. It was a quiet and peaceful area. We loved the pier. It had benches and swings and was also covered in some places. I did not see a dolphin, but my son and daughter-in-law came to visit for a couple of days and saw three the first day. Coffee, paper towels, toilet paper and miscellaneous soaps, and body washes were provided. There were plenty of towels. There was also a fan in each bedroom for people that like a fan blowing on them at night. There were also crab traps, fishnets, and boogie boards in the storage building outside Location was very close to Gulf Shores and even closer to Foley. 10 top restaurant nearby was delicious. We didn’t check out the fresh seafood places where you could buy seafood and take it home, but we ate some good seafood at King Neptune, not far away in Gulf Shores. It looked like a hole in the wall, but the shrimp was so delicious! I would definitely stay there again if I’m in the area.

Perfect for us during our son’s baseball World Series
The place is very quiet and everyone seems to keep to themselves. It has a rustic fishing cabin feel. The kitchen is stocked with everything you could need and has updated appliances. It was clean and has plenty of extra linens, blankets, and towels. My 11 yo daughter slept on the couch and was comfortable. Both beds were also comfortable, but we did bring our own pillows. The only issue we had (not really a problem, more of a preference) was the bathroom lighting is very very dim and has a small round mirror, so it’s hard to get ready in there. I ended up using a decorative mirror in the main bedroom because the light was better. A full length mirror on the back of one of the doors would be nice to add. Again, not a big issue, but we did go out to eat each night and it would have been nice to have :) We went out on the dock right across the road a few times and let the kids fish and they loved it. It was relaxing to sit and swing and watch the boats go by. There are plenty of shrimp and crabs to catch if you like that. Overall, we had a great stay and would stay here again. It’s a perfect getaway place if you don’t mind being a little further out from the beach. The owner is also very nice and communicative and we loved being able to bring our Goldendoodle along!

We enjoyed our stay at the cabin. We caught many fish and even a stingray! The cabin was clean and comfortable and Linda was available to answer any questions i had. Also, this cabin only has 2 steps to go in and out. All of the other cabins have several steps so if you have bad knees this is a huge bonus!

Quaint little cottage - modern conveniences
The cottage is just lovely, beautifully kept/well furnished and equipped with the comforts and amenities of home. The hosts are just lovely people, great communicators, friendly, kind, and certainly welcoming. A nice dock just a few short steps across the way for use to fish (great crabbing!) or just sit and watch the beautiful scenery, sunrise and sunset, and the commercial fishing/shrimping boats as they pass. Excellent and immediate access to fresh daily catch just around both corners if your fishing game is slow or amazing eateries within minutes. Close enough to access all the attractions of Orange Beach, Ft Morgan, Perdido, and more - but enough out of the way of mass tourism that you can take it in in smaller doses, fewer crowds and come back to a peaceful relaxing home. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Thank you for sharing this location.
