This hotel was everything I had hoped for: somewhere to relax and swim, and accessible from a nice town without a car. The rooms were exactly as portrayed online: large and comfortable with french windows opening onto a tiny balcony, overlooking the church, gardens and hills in the distance. The pool was nearly always quiet and kept spotlessly clean, with a view of wild flowers beside the sun deck outside. The decking, overlooking Braga, was great for relaxing after a swim late afternoon. We ate twice in the restaurant of the Hotel Elevador, just a minute's walk away. The food, wine, setting and service were fantastic (particularly the dessert buffet!). Transport services to the hotel are efficient and cheap - the water funicular runs frequently and they attempt to make connections with the bus into Braga. Taxis are also reliable and inexpensive. The only caution I would offer about this hotel is that the staff, although polite, were rather laid-back about service. There is no bar on the sun-deck, no-one staffing the small bar downstairs, and little information is forthcoming about Bom Jesus, transport, etc. We didn't have breakfast at the hotel and other options are limited - two outdoor cafes near the hotel. The setting is lovely but the service and menu aren't great at either. I would very happily stay here again. The setting is remarkable (it is a privilege to stay on this historic site) and the hotel is great value for money.
