We were 2 couples traveling for. Spa break,
Booked the hotel specifically for the Spa facilities.
We were upgraded on the rooms. One was brilliant one was poor and totally different. We booked together so why weren’t they the same. Hotel said it’s because Expedia didn’t tell them it was a joint booking.
When to the spa. No treatments available. Pool was 17c so very cold and not really usable. Pools normally 26-28c. (We were given no prior notice of this) No hot tub as advertised. Hotel blamed Expedia for this being advertised. Also said they charge £6 per day for Spa use. This was not advertised on Expedia.
Rooms at night like very hot like saunas. Hotel said they couldn’t control this but we could turn down temp in rooms. We did this but it was still hot even with window open. Heat was coming from hotel somewhere else.
We made the most of our time there by changing our trip and going off the day we were going to use the spa treatments. Only one of us had a treatment the other cancelled as felt that because she couldn’t use the facilities it wasn’t worth doing. Spoke to the operations manager Regan on leaving with these points and others and he wrote them down and I asked for feedback on why we experienced this. As of writing this 4 days after I have no callback. I even chased and a person was going to send him a message and no reply. It seems the management don’t care about issues here. I could go on but don’t have enough character left to write it. poor, poor, poor.
Great hotel with big luxurious rooms. Good heating and hot water.

Wonderful stay
We had a fabulous time at the palace hotel. The room was lovely and clean and it had a tremendous view of Buxton.
We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel, both were great, service and quality of the food.
We will be back in June as we have booked tickets for a show at Buxton Opera House.
I was unaware that the swimming pool has a charge of £6 and an extra £2 for a towel.
This is not advertised anywhere on reception that I could seem

Lovely old building, our room was dated but they are in the process of modernisation. Spa and main function room looked great.
The hotel is a beautiful building. Full of architecture . It is very close to the town. The bed was hard but we managed to sleep. Nice and warm in the hotel. The coffee was great. We had dinner. It was a very good buffet. Breakfast good too.
Fantastic and stunning hotel. Staff warm and welcoming. Room was excellent

The room was adequate and Tomb like the staff were ok , The morning revealed the follow concerns .Dog faeces and leaves in corridor. The restaurant facilities not as good as the local Weatherspoons and overpriced
Derided by some, Britannia Hotels do the nation a great favour by taking on some of the ‘glamour hotels’ of the past. In making them affordable for the mass market compromises have to be made and with the Palace Hotel this shows in some of the areas of decor. The ‘Spa’ was a limited experience- a small weights room, an excellent steam room and sauna but the pool was cold and there was no “jacuzzi”.
Breakfast was fine though we arrived at 9am, 30 mins before it closed, and the room was packed and the staff a little overwhelmed- our fault for being late arrivals.
At £72.50 for a compact room plus breakfast it was excellent value.
The outside was phenomenal. Loved it. Inside was back in the 1800s and old fashioned. The pool was cold. Breakfast wasn’t the best with the hot chocolate empty. Toaster was slow and not working properly.
Nice staff in the hotel though
