We were supposed to be able to check in at 3. We eventually got our room key at 4pm after repeatedly asking the reception staff. We had an early pre theatre dinner reservation booked which meant we didn't have the relaxed getting ready time we were anticipating. The four poster bed in room 1 was very uncomfortable and small so neither of us had a good nights sleep.

Overall the hotel was fine. It’s quirky with its wonky floors and ceilings, it’s very old so expect this. Staff were friendly, room was lovely and spacious with a fantastic view. Had a proper single bed for our teenage son which was excellent rather than most other hotels only offering a sofa bed. Had a bath as well which is wonderful. Breakfast was help yourself which was fine. Parking is limited but we were lucky to get a space right outside. It’s first come first served. £6 for 24 hours pay int the hotel, so not too bad if you manage to get a space. No room service available I did ask at reception, there’s a little bar in the hotel that sells food up to 9pm I think, but not our cup of tea really. Overall it was fine.

Great base!
The Hotel was good, in a great location overlooking the Pavilion Gardens and central to the whole of the centre of Buxton. The staff were very helpful and polite. The only thing that disappointed me was that our room needed some tlc to smarten it up, but overall a great base 😎

The Hotel very dated, seems NEVER been updated with furniture, beds carpets. Dining was bad, only 1-2 Items available from menu and even extra Gravy was an issue as could not provide because kitchen closed 10 minutes ago? Old sticky carpets, dated furniture over 30 years old, Surprised Bookings.com have this hotel on their site? any one booking CANCEL now. Very dissapointed with the bedroom , just a fan , noisy old windows, dated cupboards, very tiny small room , should have been a single room.

One Night Stay
The hotel is very old worldly which is what I expected. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast waiter was abrupt and rude not only to myself but both tables either side of me. If he wants to work in the hospitality industry he needs to seriously review his attitude towards paying guests. Maybe a 'wait to be seated' sign may help? The breakfast food was only just average.

We wanted to be close to the Opera House as we were attending 3 shows as part of the international Gilbert and Sullivan festival. The hotel gave us a great rate, a really lovely, spacious room with a fantastic bathroom - and it was so close to the theatre we were back in the hotel before everyone was out of the theatre! A really good breakfast is provided, the hotel has a lovely bar - we enjoyed a cold beer boyh nights after the theatre - and although we didn’t take dinner there, they offer a great-sounding fixed-price menu which is really reasonably priced. Staff are so helpful and friendly. We would defistay there again.

Unique historic hotel well situated in the centre of Buxton. Helpful staff and good breakfast. Although I love the charm of this hotel, the rooms could use some basic upgrades such as painting, bedding, replacing shower curtains and bath mats in the rooms. Main pub and restaurant have the period charm I was hoping for.

Hmmm
Dated old hotel way past it’s prime- lift was a debarcle, an inside safety door had to be fully shut as you left the lift, otherwise it didn’t operate and no one was able to use it. I saw elderly people struggle with the stairs as the lift was never operating. Spacious room, and breakfast was great. Location fantastic.

Nice hotel with nice food and friendly and very helpful staff. Our family room was the very top of the building and was very hot and uncomfortable. That being said, I would recommend people to stay here if visiting Buxton.
