The hotel has seen its glory days in the 1920s. The condition of the rooms varies a lot. We saw some from nice and ok and really price savvy, and quite the opposite. Nevertheless, the normal price ca 15 $/person is a worthy consideration. The state of the bathrooms and toilets is usually the issues. We stayed three nights at the hotel and the rooms were not cleaned once. But, considering the short stay, it wasn’t a problem. The breakfast was also ok, considering the price, and there were no issues with hygiene or no stomac problems.
Amazingly, the hotel offered real bed clothing and duvets and clean great, thick cotton towels, which you do not get even in all better hotels. The staff speaks English and was always very helpful, which was a great asset. Even the air port suttle offered worked for us without any difficulties. The rating, 3.5 stars, is of course massively debatable. I would say 2 stars. Nevertheless, the location of the hotel in Cairo is superb, which adds to its overall value as a good budget hotel.
