The rooms are a converted second floor above a restaurant/bar in an old building. They are somewhat spartan with cheap furniture, but adequate, plenty of space, Wifi included, plenty of hot water in the shower, coffee in the room, but no TV. The street view from the windows was nice.
The staff was very friendly and helpful with the hotel and city sights. Included breakfast downstairs was good (usual French style, eggs, selection of cold cuts, meats, cheeses, pastries). Most of the staff speaks English.
Carcossonne (the medieval city) is a short walk along a street with charming little shops, and other city attractions are across the old stone (now) foot bridge right next to the hotel, and a charming island park in the river is right next door.
Summary: on first sight of the room my reaction was "ugh", but by morning I decided I quite liked the overall stay.
