The bedroom was lovely and very clean but, very disappointed with the big stain on the botton bed sheet. It was to later to ask for a clean sheet, but we did mention it to the desk staff in the morning, the reaction was - I'm sorry and goodbye. Not impressed!!!

Excellent hotel .everything was superb . Very welcoming staff when I arrived and very helpful as well when I left . Only 30 min drive straight into Cardiff city centre . Will definitely book again

Great hotel if you can get a deal
Stayed at this hotel before but when I’ve looked recently the prices were sky high. Got it this time at a great price. It’s nice and comfortable but the settee was full of stains!!! Suffice to say I didn’t sit on it. Other than that all good and would stay again as great location. £30 for a burger onion rings and pint in sawyers was a bit steep but service good and tasted fine. Glad it was on expenses.

From reception to check out, the staff were great. Great bed and the breakfast was simple and effective. I asked one staff what the hotel name meant...Its really like having a cuppa tea or being homely. Makes a lot of sense. I will be back.

We booked this room for a night away and to enjoy some food from the nearby restaurant Sawyers. After we had checked in and settled in to our room I contacted reception to ask about Sawyers and was told that it was closed that night. The alternative we were offered was the Light Menu from the bar in the hotel. As there were no other restaurants nearby and delivery from restaurants in Newport was going to be over an hour we decided to order from the bar. When I went to place my order I was told that they were having technical issues with the microwave and the only food available was pizza or pizza! We chose the pizza which tasted very bland. The final issue we had was when I was making a cup of tea and removed the pack of biscuits that was sitting in the cup, only to find the remains of someone else’s coffee in the bottom of the cup! I took the cup to reception and on showing the receptionist he said “Lovely”. I replied “ I don’t think it’s lovely!” He apologised and washed the cup and gave me an extra packet of biscuits! Overall we were very disappointed in our stay. We feel we should have been advised on booking that the Sawyers restaurant was closed that night not after we had checked in. The technical issues may not have been anybody's fault but to only have one microwave in the hotel seems to have been an oversight! The final straw was the dirty cup-when you see that you do start to worry about the standard of cleaning in the room and the hotel. A disappointing stay!

The corridors to the bedrooms were cold, the heating in the room was set too low and the control was broken, the lamp on the desk was not working. The door closure was broken and very sharp, dangerous. The breakfast was luke warm, apart from the beans and not much choice. Would not stay here again.

My reason for knocking down the score a little bit it’s because this is a cashless hotel and I think Cash is important especially in this day and age apart from that the staff for fantastic and rooms good as always
