Property needs improvement

The hotel definitely has good potential. The history, architecture and location add charm and character to this hotel, however, the rooms are very dated, including the tiny bathrooms. We reserved two rooms, one of them smelled of mold/old house and two from our party couldn’t sleep well due to strong odor. Definitely not a four star experience.

This is an excellent property just a few minutes walk to the College of Charleston, Fort Sumter, the historic district and King Street! The hotel is classic “old school” with a very nice champagne and hors d’oerves reception the Saturday afternoon we arrived. No need for a car for the 3 days in Charleston then rented one for two days visiting the plantations and Cypress Gardens (a must see!). We loved Charleston!

Charming hotel

We had a wonderful stay at the Francis Marion. The service was incredible! The beds were comfortable and the rooms very clean. The bathrooms are small since this hotel was built around 1930 but to us that was part of the charm. Will stay there again next time we are in Charleston.

This was a very nice hotel. The lobby is large and welcoming and a great place for family and friends to gather. The staff was superb. It was very clean. My only observation that would be less-than-perfect: (1) It can get noisy from the street, since you're on the "Broadway" of downtown Charleston, and the night life is lively (I'm old, so I go to bed early). And the hallways tend to echo sounds, so you might her people coming in late at night. Take the last two points with an understanding that I am the absolute opposite of a night owl, so my comments might be irrelevant to you.

Great hotel for the money. Parking a bit inconvenient and expensive in the garage nearby, but the hotel was roomy, beautiful lobby, and perfectly located in the city.

I really enjoyed staying at the Francis Marion during my first trip to Charleston. The staff was very welcoming, and the hotel was nice and clean. The room had everything I needed for my stay, including complementary bottles of water. My room also had a wonderful view of the harbor! The hotel is very conveniently located downtown near a lot of shops and restaurants. It's also fairly close (within walking distance or a short Uber ride) to a number of museums and tourist attractions. I would definitely stay here again next time I'm in Charleston!

Beautiful stay!

Our room was beautiful and very clean. The bathrooms are a bit small. Highly recommend the restaurant “Swamp Fox”. Our waitress, Syvie, was an absolute gem. We went twice for breakfast!

Nice but aging

Hotel was super clean and the staff was very helpful but the hotel is starting to show its age. The bathrooms don’t even have fans which lead to some awkward visits.
