The check-in staff were nice. The room I rented was quite small with carpet that didn’t quite give me the feeling that the place was super clean, neither did the kind of dingy hall/stair area. I understand most choose the location for being next to the water and restaurants, but I didn’t get the opportunity to enjoy those features during my very short visit, so cannot comment on them. There is parking for €24/night about a 5 minute walk away next to the cathedral. Hot shower, comfortable enough bed. This place got the job done when it comes to basics.
One thing that made me very uncomfortable, though, was after I turned the deadbolt on my room, sat on the bed and started to do some quick work on my laptop, a man walked into my room. He didn’t speak English, and I could not understand what he was asking or saying. He had a key with a red tag on it (the doors are accessed by a key card). He shuffled away after moving some boxes that were in the hallway. I don’t know if he had been a longterm renter of the room before me, was perhaps a maintenance employee or what. Anyhow, I didn’t feel very confident in sleeping in the room as a solo traveling woman after that, but I figured out a way to jam the desk chair under the deadbolt so it couldn’t be turned by and external key. It could have been an innocent mistake, but I really could not grasp exactly what happened to confirm completely so it rubbed me the wrong way.
