We had a fun stay at Chestnut Mountain Resort. The facility is out dated and has an old feel, but our room was tidy. The bathroom was very small. We had a family gathering over the weekend. Several of us went skiing and had a good time. The rest of us played games. The large gathering room closed when the ski hill closed. We were disappointed because we wanted to continue to play games after skiing. We had a large group and needed tables to play our games. The lady that told us the room was going to close was very rude and demanding.

Quick ski trip
The resort was great for skiing in and out. Overall the staff was friendly and helpful. The property does not have an elevator making it hard to bring luggage and ski equipment upstairs. The building overall and the room we stayed could use some updating.

This place offers disc golf! Another wonderful option to enjoy the outdoors for free. They charge rental fee for the disks if you forget to bring your set but; otherwise, FREE to play! Meander thru their part of Illinois with the fall colors as your backdrop. Have the Mississippi River on your right the sun on your left and the wind blowing behind you! It is heaven. We'd go back!

I loved the view of the river from the room and the area for hiking to the river. Coming in the fall for the colors was perfect. It’s a short drive to Galena. The restaurant on site was good and convenient.

The entire lodge is dated and run down!!!!! My first room had 6 visible bugs crawling around the ceiling. My second room had even more!!!!!! Mary at the receptionist desk was wonderful. When she was off, the other two were worthless and quite unfriendly!!!! I would NOT recommend this place to my worst enemy!!!!!!!! Nothing in downtown Galena was available for the dates we needed.

Beautiful resort in Galena IL
The ski resort is beautiful in the fall with the trees changing. Having a drink on the deck looking over the Mississippi was special. It’s an older resort; we had to go down several stairs then up a few stairs to get to our room. The toilet and sink are very low. As older people, one using a cane, these issues caused some barriers. No elevator. I should have asked for another room , but the room was spacious, clean and comfortable.
