Gilmore House

We are located off of historic Gilmore Trail appx. 10 miles north of Fairbanks. Our cute 3b.r.- 1 bath home can comfortably accommodate up to 6 people and is perfect for anyone who is interested in exploring the Last Frontier at your own pace. We have a large deck located on the 2nd floor and a large front porch, both overlooking the historic Gold filled hills north of town. Great for watching the Northern Lights or enjoying the Midnight Sun! The kitchen has pots & pans, dishes, silverware, baking pans, cake pans etc. and we always provide, with our compliments, a food *'Starter Kit' with things like Bacon & Eggs, OJ, milk, & various other breakfast items, plus bread, butter, PB&J, a variety of condiments, salad dressings, spices, and more, as well as snacks & some bottled water. In the freezer there are always a couple of pizzas! *(Gluten /Dairy free options available upon request with advanced notice). So much easier than trying to find a Grocery store before you've even had a chance to get settled in! With a little notice, we can pick you up or drop you off at the Airport or Train Depot. We are Pet friendly & have food & water bowls & a blanket for your fur babies. We live next door, so no matter what time of year you come to Alaska, we are always available should you need anything & we will do our absolute best to make sure you and your family & friends have a great visit! No matter where you choose to stay, whether with us or elsewhere, we hope you have a wonderful time in Alaska!

I cannot begin to grasp how incredible of a stay I had here at Laura’s home. My partner and I had a bucket list dream to see the Northern Lights. We had decided Fairbanks would be a good spot. From booking our stay, Laura provided us with tips and recommendations for anything from restaurants, things to do, etc. All her tips were spot on and excellent. I have stayed in many a VRBO and Laura is the best host I’ve ever had. She offered to pick us up at the airport as needed, ensured our fridge was stocked with a lovely breakfast starter kit, had a valentines gift and flowers waiting for us on the counter, and alerted us (upon request) when the Northern Lights were visible! It is so very clear that Laura is a passionate host and cares deeply about her home and the guests who stay there. The home itself is cozy in all the right ways. Everything I could possibly need was already there. I was cooking and realized I needed butter, she had it there. I caught a cold and needed tissues, she had plenty. We needed sandals to go to the local hot springs. She has several pairs. Worried about dehydration? She’s got a massive jug of water ready to go for you. Wanting to bundle up? There’s a fuzzy blanket waiting for you on the sofa. Everything was wonderful. I arrived in Fairbanks not sure if I’d ever want to come back, and I leave Fairbanks wishing to come back quickly, at the very least to visit Laura and her lovely home.

A great place with fantastic hosts!
The house is fantastic decorated with one of a kind items from Alaska. Laura and Martin are the most amazing hosts ever and were always available for questions. They had groceries for us at our arrival. We saw the northern lights right from the house! The house was always warm and cozy, even when it was beyond freezing outside. For potential future guests - the stairs inside are kind of steep and narrow. They didn’t bother us at all, but if you have mobility concerns, they might be a challenge. We can’t wait to return to this property and reunite with our fantastic hosts!!Thank you Laura and Martin!

Unforgettable experience with the best hospitality
Our family had an unforgettable stay at Gilmore House! Visiting Fairbanks after Christmas and ringing in the New Year here was truly magical.This trip was all about seeing the Aurora Borealis for the first time, and thanks to Laura's thoughtful texts when the lights appeared, we got to experience their breathtaking beauty. Midnight wake-ups were completely worth it!We also loved exploring the area - dog sledding, ice fishing, visiting the Santa Claus House, and soaking in Chena Hot Springs (frozen hair and all!) were highlights for everyone. The sledding slope nearby and playing in the snow made for hours of fun, despite the frigid temperatures.Ringing in the New Year at the cabin was extra special. The welcome basket with New Year goodies made it a night to remember. We enjoyed celebrating with fireworks (and Laura) at midnight! :)The cabin was warm, cozy, and had almost everything we needed. We especially loved the beautiful sunrises and sunsets right from the windows. Laura, your kindness and hospitality - along with the personal touches - made our stay feel so special.Thank you for an incredible Alaska adventure!

Beyond magical
We came on a lark in hopes of seeing northern lights. We discovered an amazing place, with hands down the very best hosts (and humans) you could even imagine. The house is perfect. Laura and Martin are incredibly kind and thoughtful. Laura and Martin were great hosts! They made us feel like family and not just guests. Laura picked us up at the airport, and dropped us off to get our car and brought our bags to the house so we could enjoy our day in Fairbanks! There was a food “starter” kit there for us when we arrived and she offered us tips on places to go eat, visit and see the Northern Lights! She even offered to wake us if the Northern lights came out! The Gilmore house itself is beautiful clean and has a comfy feeling to it. The views were breathtaking! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It is definitely a home away from home! We highly recommend it and will definitely stay there again if we make it back to Fairbanks! Thanks Laura for everything!!

A group of my family from the midwest (IL, KY and TN) traveled to Fairbanks for a vacation. We chose Sept to try to see the Northern Lights while there. Our host was extremely helpful both in planning the trip while we were there. Laura is amazing and we loved the beautiful and well decorated house where we could see the Aurora from our lodging. Fabulous Fairbanks at the Gilmore House!
Laura and Martin were amazing hosts! They even picked us up at the train station and got us to our rental car - saved us a bunch of $. Gilmore house is a warm and welcoming home full of historical artifacts. This is definitely a place to visit and stay again. A wonderful location to see the Northern Lights. I can't recommend them highly enough - book it!

Cozy Stay - Caring Hosts
My kids commented to me repeatedly that they loved this house as it felt so cozy and comfortable to them. That is the highest praise that teenagers can give to any place that we stay. This house just exudes warmth and love and we enjoyed every minute spent here. The hosts were probably one the most friendly hosts we have ever had the privilege to rent from. They gave several suggestions for area activities and restaurants and the starter kit that was left for us gave us just what we needed for a lovely breakfast our first morning there. When we thought we might be stuck an extra day due the airline technology glitch, Laura was quick to offer us another night if needed and even held off on housekeeping until I let her know we were on the plane. It is rare that I ever feel cared for by the owners of a VRBO, but I definitely felt cared for here.

The Gilmore House is so quaint and cute with all of the authentic furnishings with notes sharing a little bit about each one. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful. A wondeful place to decompress and relax. Laura stopped over to make sure everything was okay and was nice enough to share some farm fresh eggs with us which made some very delicious breakfast. Definitely would stay again the next time we're in Valdez.

Beautiful wooded area framed with lovely flowers and historical artifacts. Spacious interior, with each room thoughtfully decorated. Notecards throughout detailing historical items as well needed home instructions. Stocked kitchen was such a wonderful surprise, just another example of how much time and thought out detail the hosts put into their home. Location peaceful. I savor the feeling of sitting out on their swing, soaking in the sun, smelling the surrounding flowers, and drinking my morning Java. My boyfriend went down memory lane and played his childhood songs on their piano. Brought smiles seeing a 64 year old guy playing "Mary Had a Little Lamb" ! Another plus was that shopping was conveniently 10 minutes away so grilling out was easily planned. We cannot say enough about the hosts, Laura and Martin. We have traveled extensively, many repeat areas, and rarely encounter such gracious and thoughtful hosts as them both. We would without hesitation, stay again at the Gilmore House.

Gilmore House Fairbanks Family and Friends
For us, the location was perfect as we have family nearby. Gilmore House is a mini museum of all things Fairbanks and more. Loved being able to cook breakfast after sleeping in. Really appreciated the privacy given by Martin and Laura. Sadly, the smoke of the forest fires ruined the air quality. Air conditioning would have been great. Although there is a TV in every bedroom and the living room, we spent more time watching buffering than any news or entertainment. Only other suggestion is to check with your guests before leaving food. I’m diabetic, allergic to milk and my hubby has to eat gluten free. While the starter food might be great for most, it was wasted on us. Loved the fans! Cute cabin with a creaky staircase. A few more dish towels would have been nice and a broom to sweep up the dirt we tracked in. We were able to see all our family and even made a trip to Denali. We were very happy to have this as our home away from home!

Charming spot!
We enjoyed our stay at Gilmore House. Laura was super helpful, providing resources before we arrived and checking in via text through our stay. Laura and Martin live next door so are available if needed and very friendly. The house has loads of charm and thoughtful touches. For example, we stayed during a few warm days with lots of sun coming through the lovely windows - thankfully fans were available to keep things cool in each bedroom.

We traveled from our home in Anchorage for a quick summer warm up in Fairbanks. 3 adults, one teen. The Amazing and thoughtful hosts have created space that brings a smile to your face as soon as you step inside. It’s a special place and you can feel the love they put into it. Laura & Martin have collected wonderful antiques, Alaskan historical items, literature and even fossils! The home is warm and inviting space for a family with lots of cozy blankets, great beds, with board games, snacks and breakfast items. Even honey for my tea! Waking up in the master bedroom with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the forest was peaceful and relaxing. Our hosts were great communicators, kind and friendly. They offered ideas for adventures and answered questions quickly. I’m a big fan of Gilmore House and we can’t wait to return!

Great Getaway!

I truly enjoyed my stay at Gilmore House. I definitely recommend it over a hotel. It was peaceful and quiet, while still close enough to drive to all of my activities. I wished I'd had more down time on my trip to just relax at the house. It was cozy and felt like you were at home. Laura and Martin were excellent hosts. Laura was very communicative from the time I'd booked until I'd checked out and she wished me safe travels. She went above and beyond with making my stay the best it could be. She even made me certificates for me crossing the Arctic Circle and for seeing the Northern Lights that Martin brought over with some salmon to try. So sweet! Personal touches that a hotel can never offer. If I'm ever visiting the Fairbanks area again, I will be booking Gilmore House.
