This is probably my first negative review on Expedia in the past 20 years. The hotel itself is slightly outdated but still clean, so I am oksy with that. You get what you pay for.
However, the service I received was not as pleasant. Mainly for two reasons:
1) We arrived early, about 45 mins earlier than the check in time. I kindly asked if our room was ready and if it was could we please have a early check in. The answer I got "yes your room is ready but you need to pay a $25 fee". I do understand that they have the total rights to do so. BUT, in my past 28 years of traveling (avaerage about four trips a year), not one hotel had ever asked for an early check in fee. Either the room was not ready then I would patiently wait for it to be ready. Or if it was ready, I would let in. Just because you can charge a fee doesn't mean you should. This is a matter of customer experience.
2) after we got into our room, my kids tried to watch TV. It didn't have signal. So I made a call to the front desk. The lady (same lady at the check in) told me to wait on the line. 15 mins later I was still on hold. Finally I decided to hang up and physically went down to the front desk myslef. What did I find out? There was no customer at the front desk to check in or ask questions. Further more, this lady wasn’t even near the front desk. I had to yell "execuse me" several times before she headed out from the back (maybe a back office).
