Being our first real overnight travel since Covid, El Matador checked all of the boxes that mattered for us.
The room was spacious, and particularly indulgent for 2 people. The kitchen was a little tight but very well equipped, and between the seasonings we brought and the supermarket across the bridge, we never had to compromise on restaurant selections for meals when homemade would take the edge off. Instead, we were able to skip potentially overcrowded situations and select a couple of eateries strictly on our schedule.
The "Partial view" room actually exceeded expectations. The breezeway into the front door provided a breathtaking sunset view of the undeveloped section of the island with the Sound on our right and Gulf on our left. Through the living room and out to the balcony provided direct view of a mirror image unit across approx 70 yds of well maintained courtyard, and turning to our right, both buildings open around the main pool to an impressive view of the gulf within 50 yards of the edge of the pool. There was no craning of the neck required to enjoy the view. The only limitation we experienced was that a sunrise view required a trip to the beach.
Compared to some of the other properties down the beach, I definitely appreciated the option for social distancing.
This was a last minute change for us as our earlier Pensacola lodging sustained damage during the storm. Turned out to be much better than our original plans.
