Very good

Clean place, decent average room, rude staff. Staff fairly hostile and unwelcoming, with a distinctive lack of hospitality. Room was up 3 flights of stairs with no lift or assistance with luggage. We booked breakfast and dinner there to simplify our trip. Honestly wish we hadn't- I'd have rather given my money to a more pleasant establishment. In the end I tried to minimise my contact with staff to avoid checking out early.
Comfortable, welcoming, friendly. Just what we needed after our holiday plans had to change when we couldn’t get a flight, and the hotel where we were going would not refund us. We were able to relax, recover, and enjoy a bit of luxury after the most horrible day at Stansted airport. The staff were lovely.
We had a fabulous one night stay. If it hadn't been fully booked the next night we would have stayed longer. Very comfortable bed and room. Friendly staff. Excellent breakfast. Beautiful grounds.
I stayed at the Shendish Manor for business. The room had recently been refurbished to a high standard and was immaculate. It was just a shame about the constant noise from other guests shouting down the corridor which was very echoey. Whilst the decor was good, being able to have a hot or even warm shower at 5am before I left for work would have been a benefit
Staff are exceptional so polite and welcoming & helpful, especially Lucy on reception. Room was basic & clean and breakfast was nice. Shame their was leaking water in corridors and the aircon didn't work! View from rear of orangerary was a little disaapointing with rubbish and deteriorating gutteing and pipes and paintwork on windows needs refreshing. Building looks tired and could do with so e upgrading and renovation
Hotel was lovely and rooms were very clean. Staff were polite and friendly. Stayed here as we were doing a Harry Potter studios tour. Very convenient location and lovely gardens to walk around. Highly recommend 👌
Perfectly friendly staff on reception. Nice, but inexperienced, staff in the bar and restaurant. But, lift (permanently) out of order. No offer of help with luggage to my sister with walking difficulties getting up many flights of stairs to the second floor room.
Need to arrange a refund as we refuse to stay there. The place is in terrible state of disrepair. Even the gardens haven’t been touched in probably 12 months. It is as if the place has been closed and not touched for many years and then they just reopen.
We have the honeymoon suite which is meant to be their best room! The place smells like an old peoples home I have to say.
Outside the entrance, there were 2 foot thistles growing out of pots.
The manager and the assistant were very friendly and totally understood us not wishing to stay there. We left within an hour of arrival.
Now looking for a refund from hotel.com
Beautiful building, lovely setting, immaculately clean everywhere, lovely public areas & staff very helpful & friendly.
It would benefit from continuous housekeeping assessment & maintenance in the bedroom areas though - our room was a lovely very large, front facing one but the bathroom sink plug mechanism was broken & part of one of the curtains was hanging off the rail.
Little things matter!
Whilst there they also seemed to be having a lot of trouble with their card key system.
Two personal gripes: this huge room would have greatly benefitted from a king size or super kingsize bed;
And why oh why do hotels insist on only providing those ridiculously small pods of semi-skimmed milk?!
I would definitely stay here again though I'd take a small carton of full cream milk with me!
