Holidays in Kowloon

You might regret that fifth rum and scoffing that 4 a.m. kebab, but you’ll never regret travel. So we think it’s about time you took a look around Kowloon, Hong Kong! With around 7,000,000 people living in this city, you're bound to make some new mates while you're in town. Once you've hit the tarmac at Shenzhen International Airport and dragged your bags from the conveyor belt, Kowloon is a commute of 55 kilometres to the southeast. From downtown Hong Kong, it's located 6 kilometres northeast.

Some of this city's attractions are sprinkled near Kowloon, and Soho and the International Finance Centre are some of the most impressive. The must-see sights of the Madame Tussauds and Lan Kwai Fong are also easily accessible. A great way to better understand this city is to wander around a few of its neighbourhoods. So why not go to nearby To Kwa Wan and Kowloon City and explore their sights and sounds?

If somehow you've never heard of Ocean Park, prepare to be amazed. This leading attraction sits just 8 kilometres south of Kowloon.

Getting cabin fever in Kowloon? Then get out and discover Pacific Place and the University of Hong Kong, two fabulous sights in the centre of the city. To get an even better feel for the area, also call in at Victoria Park and Flower Market.

Make your way to a few cultural places to gain a deeper understanding of the region. The Hong Kong Cultural Centre, the Edge Gallery, the Hong Kong Arts Centre and the Grotto Fine Art are not to be missed.

Not much calms the mind like an afternoon in an art gallery. Take the opportunity to reflect as you examine the fascinating works showcased at the Hong Kong Museum of Art, the Asia Art Archive and the Cattle Depot Artist Village.

From hands-on displays to imagination‐sparking objects and artifacts, museums have something to keep everyone interested. If the weather turns nasty, why not make your way over to the Hong Kong Space Museum, the Dialogue In The Dark, the Police Museum and the Hong Kong Science Museum?

One of the marks of a good performance is often how powerful the applause is at the end. Come and join in the cheers at the City Hall Concert Hall, the Sunbeam Theatre, the Yau Ma Tei Theatre and the Ko Shan Theatre.

There's nothing quite like going on holiday with the kids to help you see life in a new light. Join them on an excursion to the Victoria Peak Tram, the Hong Kong Central Library and the City Hall Public Library.

Travelling with children can be draining. But never fear, you'll definitely get a peaceful night's sleep after spending a few hours with them at Snoopy World, Middle Road Children’s Playground and the Hong Kong Observation Wheel.

Nothing stills the mind quite like the sounds, sights and smells of Mother Nature. Experience it for yourself at Sky 100, Lion Rock Country Park, Lion's Rock and Amah Rock.

The Hong Kong Zoo and Botanical Gardens and the Charter Garden can give you a glimpse into the flora and fauna that exist in the local area.

Prepare a picnic spread and invite some friends down for an afternoon in one of the relaxing green spaces nearby. Choose from Kowloon Park, Fa Hui Park, Kowloon Walled City Park and Hong Kong Park.

There's nothing quite like treating yourself to a bit of shopping. Give your wallet a workout at Habour City, Nathan Road Shopping District, Ladies' Market and Times Square Shopping Mall.

The surrounding historic sites will provide you with a glimpse into the area's interesting past. Bank of China Tower, the Avenue of Stars, International Commerce Centre and Government House are not to be missed.

Local spiritual sites, such as the Wong Tai Sin Temple, the Man Mo Temple, the Tin Hau Temple and the Kowloon Mosque and Islamic Centre, give you the chance to ponder in a serene setting.
