This is an older property. Some carpeting has been updated, but it definitely needs some updating and repairs. There were large chunks of missing veneer on the refrigerator/tv cabinet and in the elevator. There was some mold in the upper corner of the shower. The shower drain was clogged.

Went for a fall family weekend. Given the price and the 9/10 ratings, we were disappointed. Place looks like it has been lived in hard with not enough reinvestment. Back door lock was nonfunctional from outside, ceilings stained, bathroom needed caulking, bed covers under mattresses stained, hot tub jets barely worked. Service took the wash rags on 2nd day and didn't replace. I've stayed in worse but not at this price.

Staff was great but the property is very run down. Had to go to 3 different ice machines before I found one that was working. Easy chair in my room had a replacement seat cushion on it which was uncomfortable and did not match the chair. Furniture throughout the property were old and warn down. Hotel REALLY needs to be updated. And the coffee in the breakfast room was the worst I’ve ever had. Desk clerk, on the other, could not have been nicer or more helpful.

Almost every HIX is very good. It’s easy to reserve and the rates are competitive. If it pops up on a search by city, it is usually my choice. St Joe is a beautiful beach town in southwestern Michigan. If you are looking for an escape, this place is good for a stop, with easy access to the sandy Lake Michigan shore.
