Riu Palace Baja California was a well maintained resort. They seemed to almost overstaff their restaurants so that you were always able to get something immediately if you needed, which was very nice. However, if you’re looking for a “quiet getaway” this is NOT it. They provide nightly entertainment at their main stage or at the Riu Sante Fe next door, which you have access to, and play loud music at the pools throughout the day. It’s fun at times but listening to blaring music 15 hrs a day gets a little annoying. That being said, I stayed in an Elite Club Junior Suite which overlooked the pools, and was very close to the stage, and the room was satisfyingly sound proof. It wasn’t completely sound proof, but the structure was built with loud noise in mind. So it was manageable for the week I was there. Unfortunately there’s no swimming due to the strong current and immediate drop off in depth, but you can walk a half mile down to the right and find shallower swimming. I walked all the way to the marina, which was about 4 miles round trip via the beach. Bring sunscreen if you’re planning on doing that! The town and boardwalk there was probably the best part of my stay. Lots of shopping, lots of food, lots of restaurants, including Cabo Wabo, Happy Endings, Senior Frog, etc.
