A little bit about the area:
The fun is assured when you visit Lavapiés. Thanks to its multiculturalism you can go around the world without leaving the neighborhood. For those interested in gastronomy, the district of Lavapiés offers good restaurants with all kinds of cuisine, from traditional and 'castizos' to ethnic restaurants, as well as 'tapas' and 'pinchos' bars in the purest style of San Sebastian. Those interested in theater and performances will find in Lavapiés a place they will want to return to. The Valle-Inclán Theater, the Art Theater (Teatro del Arte) and the Mirador Room (Sala Mirador), among others, welcome both classic and innovative performances that delight all audiences. Finally, the neighborhood offers many possibilities of enjoyment to those who are looking for good architecture. Lavapiés has significant buildings but also popular creations that make the neighborhood livelier. In the neighboring Barrio de las Letras (or Barrio de las Cortes) lived the most important writers of the Spanish Golden Age: Lope de Vega, Cervantes, Calderón de la Barca and Tirso de Molina. Cortes was a place of inspiration, writing and representation of works. The architectural elegance of the neighborhood transports visitors to another era. The streets that lead to Plaza de Santa Ana are populated with tapas bars, restaurants and places to have a drink. Every first Saturday of the month, the Frog's Market fills the neighborhood with street stalls set up by local merchants, including designers, antique dealers, booksellers and other.
The location of the apartment allows visiting the historical center of Madrid without having to use the public transport network. In less than 15 minutes you can reach on foot the main museums of the city (Prado, Reina Sofía and Thyssen Bornemisza), as well as the Retiro Park, the Gran Vía, the Flee Market (Rastro), the La Latina neighborhood (Barrio de la Latina) or the Puerta del Sol. Two Metro stops nearby connect the apartment with any point of the city: Antón Martín and Lavapiés are 3 and 5 minutes walking respectively. The main train station of Madrid (Atocha) is only a ten minutes walk from the apartment. You will not have problems to move around the city from our refuge!
