Surf Side Hotel was a great place to stay for our first time at Outer Banks. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. There were some nice perks like wine hour and fresh baked cookies. The bathroom in our room did show its age, but that didn’t bother us too much. Our room had a great view of the ocean on the dune side. Would definitely stay there again.

Did not honor my request for a 3rd or 4 th floor room. Happy hour snacks were always empty. Huge tear in the bedspread in our families room. They found alot of trash under their bed. The sangria they have had during happy hour in the past has been replaced w cheap red and white wine. The breakfast was good. They have beach chairs to use as well as beach towels which was nice. Not sure we will pay the premium price again for a basic room. We have stayed there many years in a row and really enjoyed it but this year seemed like a step down. Pool area was clean reception area was clean. Lots of dirt in the corners of the bathroom in the room but hallway bathrooms were clean. It’s an expensive place to stay and it’s been our favorite up until this year.

From the moment we walked in we were greeted in a warm, professional manner. Our room was clean and tidy with an amazing ocean view. Breakfast was always great and we appreciated the other small touches such as coffee and fresh water being put out as well as cookies and popcorn. All those small touches make a big difference. All the staff we encountered were also very friendly. It was our first time in OBX and we would highly recommend Surf Side Hotel and we will book again next time we come!

We stayed in the ocean front king suite . For the price it was a little cramped but has an amazing view. The room is equipped with three balconies!

Hotel is on the beach which was a plus. Free beach chairs and beach towels to use. Maid service daily which most hotels the last few years has been self service. Friendly staff, clean hotel room. Good breakfast choices every morning. Excellent experience.

They have a lot of options for breakfast and the cookies at 8pm were great for my 4yo. We enjoyed the beach so much and it’s convenient the private access as well. We will definitely come back.

We had one of the worst experiences. The hotel advertises as "pet friendly" but it was hostile towards our two small dogs....the hotel gave us the wrong room, we were booked for two nights and after the first night the literally " kicked us out" and asked us to leave due to complains " about the "dogs barking" which was not true. We had to pack in a hurry, there was no elevator and we went up and down 3 flights if stairs. I want people to know about not booking in this hotel if you have pets.

Would visit again.
We enjoyed staying at the Surf Side. It is a nice, quaint hotel with one slow elevator but had tremendous amenities. It was right on the beach with wonderful access. They offered a tasty breakfast in the morning including biscuits and gravy and sausage biscuit sandwiches which we enjoyed. They also had wine and cheese & chocolate chip cookies in the evening for guests. This makes it a little more special. The room was somewhat small but nicely decorated & a little worn; it needed a good detail cleaning but overall no complaints. We had a balcony & beach view. It was close to a number of activities, shopping & restaurants. The pools were small but nice enough for our 12 yr old to enjoy. We would definitely stay again.
