Amazing! Vacation Homes in New Orleans & Vacation Rentals: New Orleans

Are you looking for one of those perfect Vacation Homes in New Orleans? You found it! The Loft at Greatmen Cottage is the ideal place for you. This is a sunny 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom home in an historic Creole Cottage that was built in 1838. It's located just five minutes from the French Quarter in the Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans which is a National Historic District.

When it comes to Vacation Rentals: New Orleans is a special place because the homes in this city are so incredible. And the Loft at Greatmen Cottage delivers: 11 foot ceilings, massive windows, a lovely kitchen with marble countertops, plus a cute pocket garden with a charming fountain. Compared to most vacation rentals New Orleans, the Loft at Greatmen Cottage is truly in a league of its own.

The Loft at Greatmen Cottage is available as both a Vacation Rental Home & as a Filming Location.

The front of this home features a grand, 32-foot long, open, loft-like Living Room-Dining Room-Island Kitchen. The living room features a comfortable sofa and two wing back chairs with two additional side chairs. There is a large coffee table and a flat screen TV. There is also a large linen closet and a separate laundry closet featuring a stacked, front-loading washer and dryer.

There is a charming terrace with a pocket garden off the grand hallway that features a beautiful fountain. There are four comfortable chairs and two side tables on the terrace for your relaxation.

If you are searching for a monthly stay Vacation Rental: New Orleans LA has many to choose from. Weekly stays during non-peak periods receive a discount of 14% when guests check in on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. To receive this discount, click Contact Host and send us a message with your travel dates.

This house is situated in the Bywater – the trendy, hipster neighborhood that's just five minutes downriver from the French Quarter. Food & Wine Magazine calls the Bywater New Orleans Hottest Neighborhood. Artists and musicians relocated to Bywater when the French Quarter became too pricey. Now joined by professionals and young families, its high elevation has allowed it to thrive post Katrina as it never flooded. The Bywater along with neighboring Faubourg Marigny are historic districts listed on the National Register of Historic Places. They are two of the most colorful neighborhoods in New Orleans. The Architectural styles borrow heavily from the colonial French and Spanish and have elements of the Caribbean. This unique blending of architectural elements over the last three centuries has resulted in an architectural style unique to the city of New Orleans. There are many incredible restaurants, hip bars, lively pubs and art galleries scattered throughout the neighborhood.

Like Satsuma Cafe & Coffee House – it’s a favorite breakfast and lunch joint featuring some of the freshest and most innovative choices in town. Elizabeth’s restaurant is very popular for breakfast, lunch and brunch - their praline bacon is a cross between praline candy and salty pork, truly amazing and not to be missed.

There is an amazing local pizza place right around the corner from our house called Pizza Delicious. Amazingly great pizza, voted Best in New Orleans for the past several years. Their Peppadew & Arugula Pizza is my favorite. It’s a quick three-block walk from the house.

Euclid Records is a vinyl music store with a funky ambiance – it has a huge selection specializing in jazz, soul and New Orleans music. It’s next to Pizza Delicious. They also do live music events from time to time.

The Joint is an amazing BBQ restaurant on the Corner of Royal Street & Mazant Street, 7 blocks from our house, an 8 minute walk. Great ribs, chicken and pulled pork. Delicious sides. And the Peanut Butter Pie is hard to resist for dessert. Great homemade iced tea & lemonade and also a full bar. Lots of tables and a bar inside.

The Country Club is an elegant retreat that offers a lushly landscaped saltwater pool, a hot tub & a sauna. Plus an amazing restaurant with two bars (one inside & one outside). It’s the perfect setting for a relaxing afternoon – memorable meals, poolside cocktails, poolside dining and the friendliest staff in town.

Thursday night in Bywater is the night to go to Vaughan’s Lounge as it is Kermit Ruffins's night. Go early and get some of the barbecue Kermit is often cooking up before a show. Another popular place for dinner and music seven nights a week is Bacchanal, a funky wine shop on Poland Street. Here a cast of rotating chefs turns Bacchanal’s back courtyard into a food destination by showcasing their multicultural cooking. Guests sit at picnic tables and enjoy the great food, fine wine and top-notch live music.

The historic renovation business is also booming in the Bywater. Attracted by the neighborhood’s gorgeous architecture and “high and dry” elevation, many projects are already completed or underway. World-renowned architect Andres Duany recently completed his Bywater Cottages – four newly built, hurricane-resistant houses designed to blend perfectly with the neighborhood. “Ninety percent of Bywater’s architecture is gorgeous and historic; my new Bywater Cottages harmonize perfectly with that centuries-old architecture,” said Duany.

Our home is 15 blocks from the French Quarter. The best way to walk it is along the new riverfront park called Crescent Park which offers a great view of the Mississippi River the whole way. There is a footbridge called the Piety Street Arch into the park three blocks from our house on the corner of Piety Street a& Chartres Street. The walk to the French Quarter from our house takes 20 minutes.

In addition to the park, I also like walking to the French Quarter via the charming streets of the Bywater & Marigny. The Orientation Guide I will provide to you details my favorite walking route. It is a charming walk through an historic district with lovely homes. You will pass a restaurant or a charming shop on just about every block.

The Desire Streetcar will one day return to replace what is currently 'A Bus Named Desire' which stops near our house 15 times a day on its five minute route between the French Quarter and the Bywater. Cab fare & Uber fare between the French Quarter and Bywater runs about $7 and the trip takes less than five minutes. Very simple and very cheap. Many guests at our house like to rent bicycles at A Bicycle Named Desire on Elysian Fields. This place also leads guided bike tours around our neighborhood and other neighborhoods throughout the city. Bike tours are very popular as NOLA's flat terrain makes for easy riding.

If you plan to drive your own car or rent a car, there is ample street parking in front of our house at all times.

House Rules:
1. We require the Renter to review, complete and sign a lease agreement when they reserve our home.
2. Usage of the premises (house & property) is limited to four people. Please have a great time and enjoy yourselves. However, you may NOT host events in the house, in the yard or on terrace where you invite outside guests. Our insurance does not cover that kind of activity. Also, these kinds of events bring complaints from the neighbors regarding noise and parking.
3. We do not allow folks to blast music in the house at any time. Quiet hours inside the house run from 12 Midnight - 8AM.
4. We do not allow folks to play music on the terrace at any time. As a courtesy to our neighbors, we have quiet hours on the terrace between 9PM and 9AM.
5. No pets.
6. No smoking in the house.
7. No crawfish cooking - either inside or outside the house. Although delicious, they can leave a stench that takes days to clear – so it’s not fair to subsequent guests.

A sweet respite in New Orleans
We booked both Greatman Cottage and the adjacent duplex "The Loft at Greatman" for our family, which was in New Orleans for a wedding. Both places were beautiful and clean, and a wonderful place to come home to as busy events took place all Thanksgiving weekend. Both places had well-appointed and very nice kitchens and very pleasant living areas, with large, airy windows. There is a wonderful, private courtyard with a beautiful fountain -- a lovely place to relax -- just out the Cottage dining room french doors. The neighborhood is the Bywater, so like much of New Orleans, can be funky -- but very artsy and nice. If you know New Orleans at all you will be comfortable there! Booking the loft as well was great for our kids and grandkids -- so it was a wonderful location for all of us. Our host James we very nice and professional throughout the entire booking process, and was very accommodating to our needs. We recommend both Greatman College and the Loft very highly!

Nice place in a quiet neighborhood
Nice house in a quiet neighborhood. The area around looks like it could be a bit rough but we had no issues during our stay and the area was quiet at night. It was close to the French quarter although too far to walk. It’s a 10 min drive. There are some nice restaurants nearby good for breakfast and brunch.

A great stay in a great city!
From the time we booked to the time we left I was so excited for this property. The street is very quiet, and the place is decorated very well. We had a great time and would definitely book again with James. The only con (and it can't really be anyone's fault) is that the property is very old, so the walls are a bit thin. It's not a dealbreaker, but if you're a light sleeper just know these buildings are old and you'll have the same amount of noise control as a hotel room would. The property was in a great area, and we loved the long walks to Jackson Square and the French Quarter. It's a great way to burn off some calories from all of the amazing food and drinks! If you want to eat or drink nearby, we loved food or drinks at the Sneaky Pickle, Alma, Capulet, and Elizabeth's. We highly recommend a trip to NOLA and a stay here!

A Magical Place
We so enjoyed staying in this house during the Jazz and Heritage Festival. We were amazed at the beauty of the home when we opened the door. The furnishings, kitchen, floors, lighting.....everything was designed to provide a relaxing stay. James provided very detailed instructions which eliminated any questions about how to operate everything in the home. The neighborhood and the house are astoundingly quiet which was welcome after the volume of the festival. We took city buses to the Festival which was very easy from this location. We ate dinner in the neighborhood and were delighted by our choices. Crescent Par along the river was really fun for a walk. We've stayed in many rentals and many neighborhoods in New Orleans and this was one of our favorite experiences.

perfect
My husband and I stayed here with two friends who had never been to New Orleans before, and this was the perfect spot from which to venture out into the Bywater and immediately surrounding neighborhoods as well as down to the French Quarter and Garden District. The property is gorgeous, and James has thought of everything that one might need; he was also immediately responsive to my questions during the stay. I would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful home in a great location!
My husband and I recently rented out both sides of Greatman Cottage for the week leading up to our wedding. We were absolutely blown away by this beautiful property. It had all of the amenities that we needed and it was in a great location. It was easy to get into the quarter but we were far enough away that it was nice and quiet at night. There was plenty of room to hosts guests who stopped by throughout the week. I would highly recommend renting Greatman Cottage in the future!

We found this beautifully decorated historic home to be very comfortable for our group of 4 adults. It was convenient to the French Quarter, and a fantastic location for exploring the lovely neighborhood of Bywater. The living room/dining/kitchen was roomy, and the bedrooms/bathrooms comfortable. This is a spectacular property in a beautiful neighborhood. Comfortable, quiet and convenient.
The owners have done an amazing renovation, with tasteful furniture and artwork, a gorgeous kitchen and beautiful bedrooms. The Bywater neighborhood is quiet but interesting, with few tourists. There are plenty of parks and restaurants within a 5-minute walk from the house, and the French Quarter and Mississippi river are nearby. We have spent one Thanksgiving and one Christmas in the Cottage and Loft, and both were excellent places for our holidays.

Beautiful gem in Bywater
This was our first time staying in the Bywater area. We wanted something different from previous rentals that were closer to the French Quarter. The home is beautifully decorated and was a home away from home. I wished I paid closer attention to the terrace (courtyard) description as it is narrow and the picture lead me to believe it was a bigger courtyard, but it was so hot & humid in NOLA in August that we didn't complain and just spent time enjoying time inside the living room and kitchen. James was very responsive and accommodating to some changes in our arrival and departure and it was very much appreciated. As a home owner, he provided us with enough detail that there wasn't any question on how to operate the home and it's services. I would highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a charming 2 bedroom in the Bywater area.

Charming house; great location close to restaurants and music; easy walk along river to French Qtr
We visited for French Quarter Fest and could not have been happier with our selection to stay in Bywater. We enjoyed dinner (Cafe Henri) and music (Vaughn's) in the neighborhood our first night. There is coffee shop (Satsuma) and grocery nearby. We enjoyed brunch at Elizabeth's and wine and small plates at Bacchanal (get there early if you want to sit outside for the music). During the days we strolled along the river through Crescent Park. It ends right near the mint which was the far end of FQF. We strolled from stage to stage enjoying the beautiful weather, festival food and drink and of course the music! At the end of the day we walked back through the streets of the French Quarter through Marigny and back to the house (with stops at some neighborhood bars along the way). After the crowds of the French Quarter it was nice to get back to our quiet little house. We are already looking forward to a return visit.

Beautifully decorated and immaculate. Awesome neighborhood.
What a great house in the Bywater! We were in NOLA for a wedding, and this property was perfect. Fun and funky neighborhood with great restaurants within walking distance (try Elizabeth's for brunch). But quiet enough to get a good night's sleep! Near the Crescent Trail to walk along the river. And a quick Uber or walk to the fun of Frenchman's Quarter. The owner was responsive to all our needs and supplied an extensive list of restaurants, museums and activities.
