We had an amazing experience staying in Ryokan Seikoen. Service of all staff is top-notch. They would ask for your approx chech-in time and staff will be in the parking lot greeting you and taking care of your luggage as well as parking. The flow of meals, private onsen reservation etc were all very well explained. Dinner is a very nice Kaiseki with wagyu beef. We initially had some doubts since room does not have individual shower. You have to use the one in public bath. However, later we found it's not a problem as you would shower in the onsen anyways. After enjoying the excellent Japanese style breakfast, (and there is also child option for meals), the staff all waved goodbye to us upon check-out. The whole experience is an amazing Japanese hospitality and we will definitely visit again if we come back to Yufuin.
My friend and I had a wonderful time at the Seikouen. They picked us up from JR Kurume station, and their hospitality was amazing. They welcome us at the entrance and every time they see us. Kaiseki dinner and breakfast were beautiful and delicious. Onsen was cozie and wonderful. Definitely we will like to go there again!!!
Lovely stay at Yufuin. There is a free pick-up and drop-off options available from JR Yufuin Station which is a must unless you want to walk up crazy hills to get to the property.
The room we stayed had traditional tatami mats and plenty of space to lounge around before enjoying hot springs. This property allowed us to book a private bath free of charge, and also the public bath that is open til late which was convenient. There is also free Japanese kimono that you can wear during your stay. Many ryokans nowdays charge money to lend you kimono so it was nice that it was there free of charge.
We booked Japanese kaiseki-dinner as extra, breakfast was included already into our booking. The food is absolutely divine at this property - Hats off to the chef! The dinner and breakfast was well-presented by attentive and courteous staff which made the stay very enjoyable.
Thing to note of this property is that it is located in the mountains so there isn't much to do other than hot springs and a little walk around their courtyard. But it was perfect for us to have this quiet down-time during our travels.
The hotel is located in a quiet environment with parking free for those who drive. The public onsen is great, both indoors and outdoors and the private onsen is very suitable for those who prefer privacy. The meals provided, both breakfast and dinner, are super delicious although the quantity is not a lot. Just 10 minutes walk from the hotel you will leave the quite environment to the crowed tourists area where Kirin Lake, Yufuin Floral Village and many other shops are available. It is good to those who enjoy shopping and there are many shops with specialities available to cater to different shopping needs. Overall I enjoy the stay a lot and would strongly recommend it to tourists.
A Cautionary Tale: Departure from Hospitality Standards
Rating: ⭐
In the spirit of transparency and accountability, I feel compelled to share my recent experience at Seikoen , where the promised traditional Japanese hospitality took an unfortunate detour into the realms of discomfort and negligence.
1. Atmosphere: ⭐⭐⭐
What initially appeared to be an immersive cultural retreat was regrettably overshadowed by a series of incidents that not only deviated from the anticipated experience but also raised concerns regarding the establishment's commitment to guest well-being.
2. Hospitality: ⭐
The pinnacle of this misadventure was an unexpected guest in the form of a deceased fly within our dining fare. More disconcerting than the incident itself was the inadequacy of the response—an additional serving of meat hardly serves as recompense for a lapse in hygiene. This incident warrants a closer examination of Seikoen's adherence to health and safety standards.
3.Privacy Concerns: ⭐
A breach of privacy occurred when staff entered our room without consent, highlighting the need to reevaluate its protocols regarding guest accommodations.
In conclusion, the incidents outlined above warrant consideration, particularly in relation to hygiene, guest privacy, and the overall duty of care owed to patrons. I hope Seikoen takes these concerns seriously and institutes corrective measures for the benefit of future guests.
I visited with my mom and was first time. It was amazing service, great room, great hot spring! I loved it all. One of the best experiences ever. definitely love to come back in the future. Thank you!
We love this resort, which offered shuttle to and from the station. We booked the room with hot spring tub, and it was spacious and beautiful view. We had a upgraded dinner and the meal was delicious! This hotel is highly recommended!
One of the best experiences in Fukuoka, the dinner and breakfast were great and the family onsen was also very clean. The onsen in the morning was even better since it had one outside too. Free shuttle bus from yufuin station and the ryokan. Strongly recommend.
Everything is great especially staff service minds.
Only suggestions are that public onsen morning session is only during 6-9 am which is quite rush for us and if check out time could be 11 instead of 10 would be perfect.
The private Onsen was nice. Food was good considering the price we paid. Tatami bed too hard. Didn’t sleep well. The Onsen is up a hill around 20 min. Does not provide shuttle for you to go to and from town except when you are leaving for the train station. Near the yufin floral place and the lake. Not walkable to the station area.
We enjoyed the warm hospitality and the food. Breakfast and dinner were not just good but pleasing to look at. But they were quite rigid on the use of the bath facilities even by a mere 5 minutes. We could not shower before we check out as the Onsen closed at 9 am for our use.
