When I arrived at the hotel I was told by the front end staff that my stay had been cancelled two days prior. Since I booked through Expedia I was not notified of the cancellation due to a over booking error between Choice Hotels and the third party (Expedia).
After some frantic searching for an available room, the front end staff member was able to find a room due to a guest not showing up. The front end staff member did escort me up to the room to make sure it was “ready”, and it first glance it seemed ok. Once I settled into the room I noticed the floor had not been vacuumed, there were crumbs on the floor by the bed, an assortment of “debris” under the furniture, a dirty plastic fork on the floor by the bed, and later in the evening I discovered the room had fleas.
I did not discover this until hours later around 4 am. I immediately packed up my bags, went down to the front desk and kindly asked to check out, and receive a refund for my stay. The front end staff was very apologetic once I showed proof of the room conditions I had taken with my phone and stated the manager would call me when she got in.
I never received a call from the manager, when I tried calling back a few days later regarding the refund of charges, I called the hotel to speak with the manager. I was told she was on the other line, but would call me back. I have still not received a call from the manager, and I am disputing the charge on my cc for that stay.
