The Maxime Boutique Hotel is not only the best place I have stayed at in Haiti, it is one of the best places I have stayed at anywhere throughout the world. Situated in a beautiful garden compound, the rooms are spacious, with perfect design, including custom-made Haitian cedar furniture with a beautiful scent and local artisan pieces that demonstrate the country's continuing creative evolution. In terms of practicals, the air conditioning, wi-fi, and showers are all impeccably excellent by any standards, and there is plenty of closet space for a longer visitor.
Hotel manager Jihane Sada and her accomplished, kind family were wonderfully accommodating and lovely to talk with each day and were gracious and quick to help with anything I needed; that said, the hotel offers a great deal of privacy and discretion (it would actually be a great spot to stay for a honeymoon). In this ambiance, the food is also excellent. Breakfast on the outdoor patio, prepared by Liliane Sada, includes fresh-squeezed juices from fruit grown on the property, and plenty of Haitian coffee, which is so good. Plus the chance to see colorful birds bathing themselves. The dinners are also excellent and made from local, fresh produce (cucumbers from the mountains!)
Other great things include bath products by sister Caroline Sada (Ayti Natives), a really lovely pool, and very quiet nights. I will definitely return to the hotel for work-related purposes, and it would be the perfect place for a vacation.
