Good, bad and ugly
Weekend trip. Hotel has good location and nice furnishings and exterior appeal. However the experiences from day one and day two were like night and day. Check in was frustrating. Told to wait another hour while all other customers were given their rooms. We didn’t get our room until we went back to the front desk to complain. The clerks were pseudo-friendly and unapologetic. We had difficulty finding our room because it lacked a room number. And it was so small it looked like a supply room. But the worse part was the heater wasn’t working properly. We froze the first night. It warmed up the next night after we left the thermostat on at 80 degrees! However, on the day we left we enjoyed a lovely breakfast at Gracie’s, the hotel restaurant. Our server was very nice and helpful. Our checkout was another equally nice experience. The desk clerk was genuinely friendly and even offered to carry our luggage downstairs for us (octogenarians). Too bad the other employees weren’t as considerate as these last two.

My first interactions were with Cat at the front desk, she was professional, accommodating, polite, and she was hustling. Hotel was a nice old property, would have preferred automatic daily cleaning without having to ask for it. The lower marks on location were simply because there are Homeless all over Portland, I dont think thats going to be any different anywhere else without a change in government.

It’s definitely an older hotel and the rooms are reflective of that. Small bathroom, chipping paint, etc. Doesn’t diminish the coolness of the place though. Bar was great and staff so attentive. We’ll stay here again.

The worst room I have stayed in 10 years of travel
Parked in the allocated parking lot, there was a car that had been broken into. Walking to our room (422) the entire corridor smelt of stale urine. Entering the room, the floor was covered in stains of all sizes. Me and my brother wete not comfortable being barefoot and decided to lay towels on the floor to walk. This room was also next to a generator / air flow centre that buzzed and made noise the entire night. The bathroom paint was all narnished. The entire room was dated. The amendaties in the room were extremly poor, water was $7 a bottle. I've tried to upload photos but unfortunatly the link wont upload.

We were with a wedding party, because we booked through Expedia they would not let us check in early. We finally got our room key at 3:59 after the groom and the mother of the bride asked for an early check in for us. We waited in the lobby for 6 hours. The beds were comfortable but the carpets were filthy… I took pictures as proof in case they tried to charge us extra and blame us for the stains. Bathroom was tiny with zero counter space. The neighborhood was sketchy, saw several people shooting up in public on the blocks near the hotel. Did not feel safe to walk around even during the day. Also, someone opened our room, with a key, before 9:00am.

An elegant hotel with excellent staff, incredibly comfortable beds, and a fantastic bar and restaurant attached. We adored our stay. The hotel is more of a classic and romantic space so if you are looking for a super high tech and modern experience, this wouldn’t be a match. But if you love classic old Hollywood and want to feel like you have escaped into a bygone age, this hotel is for you. Close to Providence Park and other attractions we loved the location. We can’t wait to come back!!!

Not what it used to be!
We have stayed at the DeLuxe numerous times in the past. It was not clear that things had changed significantly. The staff were friendly, when available. We called to make them aware of a late arrival. Upon our arrival there was nobody in sight. In the past, there was always greeter and valet was mandatory. It didn't bother us that we needed to park our own car, but the lack of staff threw us for a loop when trying to check in with two sleeping children. The room was pretty familiar, with the exception that the carpets were stained to a point they were a focal point and pretty gross. We love the location and hope the management can turn this beautiful place back around!

Nice stay
Liked the Old Hollywood theme. Room was nice, clean, and comfortable. Shower was small and a bit dark, but not a big deal. Only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is the unexpected and mandatory “amenities” fee of $29 supposedly for WiFi, use of the fitness room, complimentary tea/coffee and fresh fruit in the lobby, and complimentary bike rentals. I only used the WiFi…pretty steep fee for not using most of these features.
