So I really liked this place. It isn't the Ritz Carlton, but its location, staff, food and amenities make the Everest a great choice for any traveler who doesn't want to spend an arm and a leg on a hotel in Porto Alegre.
I thought the location was great, right downtown, and I spent last night and today walking the city, seeing the shops and marketplaces, etc.
The rooms are nice, for Brasil, and for this price range. If you're used to American hotels, then you'd think this place might be a little "old school"--the bathrooms could use some updating, but other than that, pretty comfortable. They have a pretty good selection of English TV, which was nice before bed.
The breakfast buffet was impeccable! I've had more than my share of those crappy breakfast buffets in my travels. I was truly blown away at the breakfast spread here. Pão de queijo (cheese bread), pound cake, fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, and passion fruit juice is what I piled upon my table--there was much more at the buffet as well. The restaurant is on the top floor (16th) with great city views all around.
Finally, everyone on the staff here seemed really friendly and always willing help with whatever I needed, be it directions, help with the internet, wake up calls, etc. Always a smile and a true spirit of service from everyone.
Only nuisance was how loud the hotel doors are when people slam them here--woke me up a couple times. And I purchased WiFi internet for for the room, or at least I was under the impression it worked in the room, but was unable to connect. So I had to use my laptop in the lobby. No big whoop. Lobby is nice by the way.
