This was probably the BEST place I stayed at while in Japan. The staff is super nice and attentive. They took the time to explain how to use the onsen amenities as well as the door systems for their hotels, even how their food is served while at breakfast. They asked us what time we wanted to have breakfast upon check in so that it was squared away for the next day; their traditional Japaense breakfast was delicious! They require you to take off your shoes at the entrance, and identified our shoes correctly every time we left the building! Honestly it felt like the staff had magic! They also asked what time we wanted to have our rooms made for the night and had it ready by the time we came back from exploring the city. They have onsens and provide yukatas so that their guests can wear around the property; even at breakfast! Overall I would have been glad to stay here my entire trip; genuine highlight of our trip.

Beautiful and peaceful onsen experience
This was an amazing onsen experience and absolutely worth the higher price. The onsen is wonderful and very private. The rooms are traditional Japanese rooms, gorgeous and comfortable. Our room also had a massage chair. We opted to have the dinner and it was incredible. The atmosphere of the hotel is very quiet and peaceful. We had a very relaxing stay!

Great onsen ryokan experience in Arima!
Fantastic ryokan experience. Service was outstanding and kaiseki dinner delicious. We also booked the private onsen for one hour which is a short 5 min walk. The location is super convenient as it’s next to restaurant, shops and the bus station. It’s not a western hotel with various amenities, so know what you are getting into upfront.

"My stay at the ryokan was absolutely wonderful. From the moment we arrived, the staff welcomed us with warm hospitality, making us feel at home right away. The room was beautifully traditional, with tatami flooring and sliding doors, providing an authentic Japanese experience. The onsen was a true highlight, offering a relaxing and serene atmosphere. We also enjoyed the kaiseki dinner, which was a feast for the senses, beautifully presented and delicious. Every detail, from the comfort of the futon to the attentive service, made this stay unforgettable. I highly recommend this ryokan for anyone seeking a peaceful and luxurious retreat."

Super love the spaciousness and the environment of Tocen. We travel with small children, it’s hard to leave them for public hot spring. This private onsen is perfect.

Incredible place that gave our family a wonderful experience of traditional Japan. The property is pristine and museum-like. For our family with teens, one night was perfect. The staff was very welcoming and helpful. We are very glad we booked this property and made the trip, even though it was off our path. The surrounding town is lovely to stroll, shop and experience a hot springs town.
