Nice Hotel, lovely people
The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is a bit tried but the staff really do make the effort. Room was clean and tidy, no complaints. Breakfast was good, would stay again

Lovely old building but has many short staircases to negotiate with luggage, but staff gave excellent help with this. Parked the car in the main hotel garage but unfortunately it was underneath a popular pigeon nesting spot. The car was there overnight and next day was absolutely plastered with guano. I couldn't see through the windscreen! I had never seen so much in such a short time and there was no hose available to clear it off. We had to use water from our drinking bottles and a de-icer. A member of staff did come to help but only with a kettle of water. The garage needs warning signs.

First time in shrewsbury, will definitely be back. The Lion is perfectly located and relatively easy to get to. Just be aware of the one way systems in the town centre. Hotel is old but has great facilities.

Never again.
I wanted to leave early. Room on the third floor with no lift - despite signs for lift on each floor. Water pipe running through room so noisy to affect sleep. Picture fell off the wall at 1:14am and terrified us. Manager said "we are supposed to be haunted!" It was simply bad workmanship. Carpets were dirty and threadbare. Fire alarms going off two mornings running, probably set off by steam from showers due to no ventilation in bathrooms. Loved the town, will avoid hotel in future. Local residents asking us what it was like now the asylum seekers have moved out after 20 months. Explains lack of maintenance. Too busy living off its history and listed status.

The hotel is very tired, has lots of steps and stairs and no lift. The bedroom was large the beds were comfortable. It took ages for the shower to get hot. We got a very reasonable price which included a plentiful breakfast. If you want a cheap break right in the centre of Shrewsbury the Castle is a good choice.

A well placed hotel situated right in the town centre. Good parking facilities. The hotel is an historic building and as such feels slightly dated. There is no lift, so quite a trek up to the 3rd floor. However all in all for what we paid for the room it was very good value for money

Quaint old hotel in the heart of Shrewsbury
This is a very old building, with creaky floors and slightly worn carpets - but it is very clean. My room was large, perhaps a little old fashioned, but was clean and comfortable. The windows had internal double glazing to keep out the noise and blackout curtains the light. The bathroom was clean and there were plenty of hangers in the wardrobe. The breakfast served was amazing with fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereals, fresh toast (you make it yourself) and a good full english on offer. The location is perfect for exploring Shrewsbury and all the staff I encountered were friendly. Only downside - there was no bar open in the evening which would have been nice for a nightcap.

Atmospheric old building - OK for overnight stay, right in the historic centre of Shrewsbury. Cooked breakfast is included but nothing to write home about - bacon, egg and tomato all very poor.

A lovely old building, magnificent in its heyday, but now needs some TLC. While room was basic tables were scuffed and chair had seen better days. Breakfast was good.
