Overall, it's a good hotel but I wouldn't choose to stay there again. It's clean, the rooms are nice, and it's conveniently located in downtown St. Paul.
I was looking for a hotel that was within walking distance of Xcel Energy Center and this is less than a mile. The area, however, leaves a lot to be desired. Walking back at 10 pm was an adventure down poorly lit roads with lots of addicts and unhoused individuals. While we stayed safe, there were definitely some moments where we were approached by groups of people wanting money and we felt unsafe. Driving through the area at night is similar as many of the same people are wandering, sitting, or standing in the middle of the street. I sat through three lights at one point because I was unable to get around the people standing in front of the car. This isn't the hotel's fault but it's something to be aware of.
What I didn't like about the hotel is that they charge for parking but don't have enough parking available. The first night I found a spot but then got blocked in by another guest because they just parked in the middle of the lot. The second night, even the fire lanes were full of parked cars and I had to park 2 blocks over.
The only other issue was trying to get food for breakfast. As soon as they refilled any of the hot food, it was gone. They could not keep up with the demand so I ended up eating elsewhere. It's a lot of money to pay to not be able to use what you're paying for.
