Some folks say you can’t buy happiness. But you can buy yourself a holiday in Takamatsu, and that's pretty damn close!

Approximately 330,000 people live in this part of Kagawa.

The country's capital, Tokyo, lies 540 kilometres east of Takamatsu. Miki-cho lies 7 kilometres to the southeast.

When they aren't playing up in the back seat of the car, kids can be fabulous travel companions. Why not enjoy a day of light-hearted adventure with your little ones at the Sanuki Kid's Kingdom?

Press your hand up against the glass and observe a range of underwater creatures as they float around the tanks at New Yashima Aquarium.

Remember those blissful childhood days spent lying down in the grass watching clouds pass by? Relive those memories at the Ritsurin Garden and Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum. Or, spend the day outside at Sanuki Airport Park or Mineyama Park.

You probably know about its must-see museums and malls, but don't forget that Takamatsu has some marvellous natural sights too. Mt.Yashima and Mount Ryuo are two names to keep in mind. For a little more breathing space, head over to Ritsurin Koen and Oshima.

Seeking eye-opening museum exhibits? Go no further than the Takamatsu City Aqueduct Museum and the Takamatsu Heike Monogatari Historical Museum. Remember to ask the friendly staff about guided tours and special events. The Lee Ufan Museum and the Ando Museum are also decent alternatives.

Whatever type of art you're into, there's a good chance you'll find it in Takamatsu. Why not start your day of art admiring at the Takamatsu City Museum of Art and the Shionoe Art Museum? The George Nakashima Memorial Gallery and the Chichu Art Museum are two more stops to put on your radar.

Get a glimpse into the impact that Takamatsu's past people and events had on the nation, and sometimes the world, at the Seto Inland Sea Folk History Museum and the Kagawa Museum. You can also explore eye-opening exhibits which endeavour to bring history to life at the Takamatsu Historical Museum and the Kagawa Prefectural Cultural Hall.

Setting aside some time to visit Shikokumura Village and the Art House Project is a great way to better understand Takamatsu's history.

Safeguarded between the towering walls of Takamatsu Castle is a remarkable history. The glory days of times gone by can be felt in every room.

You can enjoy a fill of both local history and faith at Momotaro Shrine and Tamura Shrine. The Ichinomiyaji Temple and the Kokenji Temple are also vital pieces of Takamatsu's cultural identity.

Most people put Yashima around the top of their to-do list. You won't want to be left out of all the fun, so make sure you add it onto your schedule too.

Set against a shimmering body of water, Takamatsuko Lighthouse has been a navigational aid for many sailors through the years. It's also the perfect spot to improve your photography skills!
